Main Bearing support plate differences.

I Took apart a 95 Protégé motor.
I was surprised the MBSP could be connected to all 5 mains but just like the miata it doesn’t have the holes cast in the center cap so it wasn’t.

I wonder if the caps are machined close enough that you could use a cap from a different block to connect all 5 mains. I have no idea what that would improve but I thought it interesting.

Miataroadster is selling a modified one to connect to all 5 mains. But you have to use billet caps and line bore the block. It would be a fortune to do.

bringing this back from the dead. I’m trying to find one from a protege and hack up to adapt to my Miata’s. Not paying for the MR one.

You are still going to have the issue of the main caps missing the threaded bosses for the plate to mount to.
