Mazda KL engine Adapter plate
Hi I am trying to put together a RWD KL-G4 B2200.
A few of you have done very similar swaps so I am hoping you will be able to chime in. What I am looking for right now is ether an adapter plate setup or cad files so I can get the parts made. At the moment I have the option of B2200, RX7 or T5 trans sitting in the shop. And then two KL-DE's and a KL-G4(to blow up) And off topic a HX40, turbo pipes and propane, should be fun. Thanks |
Trade the three KLs for a JE-DOHC and a JE bellhousing. Bolt JE bell to R-box trans of your choice. Dump in B2200.
Add HX40, make way more power than the KL will ever hold. |
I don't know about the KL but there is already a bellhousing for the T5 to fit to the BP.
|
concealer: not really just about the power. Want the sound and the "wow! That's different" factor.
sixshooter: Had BP in the past, like I said. Looking for something different. Thanks for the ideas though. |
I think the J will have more wow factor, there's a few KL miatas kicking around, I can think of zero J series miatas.
|
ah but this is for a B2200 not a Miata
|
Ah.
|
oh yeah and don't want the JE-DOHC, it is iron block from what I know and I have only ever seen one in a wrecking yard around here.
This truck is being built for drifting.... mostly. |

Oh no, the D word! |
woops. bit of a social fauxpas?
How about "spirited street and track driving with lots of tire smoke?" |
Ahh, the figure skating of motorsports. You are a virtual Brian Boitano.
|
LOL would it help to know it will be doing double duty in auto cross?
Jeez I am not off to a good start here. |

I assume the Rx trans is an R (tII)? If that's the case, which is stronger? I think they sell for about the same used street price...? |
Claire/crap engineering does the KL to the miata bellhousing, her .dxf's are available online and you can buy her adapter. Obviously you don't want to run the miata trans if you are boosting a KL. Joyful Noise KLiata was KL to RX non turbo bell housing. My adapter is KL to small block Ford T5 bellhousing, but it doesn't give you much room on the right side for exhaust because of the ford starter.
In my searches online I found a KL to Rx7 bell, with another adapter between the Rx7 bell and a T5. That was slick because it gave the guy room for exhaust on both sides because of the compact RX starter, but required two sets of adapters and a custom RX clutch disk with a T5 spline. |
m2cupcar: I will see what I can do. The RX trans is from a '86 non turbo.
TurboTim: I found crap engineering on another thread on this forum and sent out an email. Thanks. Ideally I would like to run the T5 trans but at this point beggars can't be choosers. You wouldn't happen to have have an extra one sitting around? or Cad drawings? The exhaust will not pose the same problem for me as the B2200 has a full frame. At this point I may be looking for both adapters. A buddy is talking about going KL in his old 70's Corolla. |
I anxiously await to see how fast you blow all three KLs only to realize that you should have gone JE instead.
Iron block is a GOOD thing for doing what you're doing. PS: F2T owns face, and is pretty much the easiest swap known to man in that truck. Seriously... there's at least 4 things off the top of my head that would be easier, potentially cheaper, and make more power. And before you even think about it, don't bother telling me i'm a KL hater. I'm not. |
N/A RX transmissions scare me, they do not like any kind of abuse. The TII trans is the better choice by far. Was there any difference between the 22 and the 26i transmissions?

Yeah. 2200 is like... 5spd miata strong, pretty much the same transmission. 2600i is an "R" box like the TII trans. Gearing differences as well. |

concealer: I want to see how fast i can blow three engines up too. Hope to have lots of carnage shots.
I know your not hating on the KL's, I am pretty sure I have seen a KL with ITBs built by you on another site. I have a mild F2T with t3/t4 sitting in an '89 MX6 already. Love that engine. Fun little car. Could look into a 2600 trans.... Doppelgänger: Thanks for the input. TurboTim: Referring to crank/bell adapter set. Two motors for the adapters? Done ! you pay the shipping on the engines and I will pay shipping on your parts. LOL Got say that looks sweeeet! |
