Mazdaspeed HG vs Reroute?
I know I read somewhere that the ports in the Mazdaspeed MX5 HG force water through the head better than the 94-up 1.8 gaskets but for the life of me i cant find that thread. As good as reroute or not?
We are building a 97 motor for track use only. Thanks |
It's the 2001+ HG rather than the MS HG IIRC.
From what I understand the 2001+ HG is better than earlier Miata OEM cooling systems, but not as good as a proper re-route. You shouldn't run both either, it's one or the other. |

The optimal solution is to run the 99/00 head gasket with a reroute. There is a big long thread on m.net about it where we compare them all. Jasonscb also put some additional holes in his and says it is working fine.

Or you can run both and use two T-stats, one in the re-route and one in the stock location with a tee into the radiator.

Go figure I put my reroute in before we "discovered" the revised 01+ HG. My solution will be to add a front t-stat/t-into the upper rad hose rather than removing the reroute. The dual t-stat setup isn't all that bad, but Hyper's way of going about it and over complicating it and using a nice big metal pipe over the exhaust manifold.

does anyone have links to the pics on miata.net? i dont have a account there at the moment.

Jason states his car ran cooler, based on his comparison w/ and w/o the 4 new holes he added. I can't seem to figure out if he was running a reroute at the time. Does anyone know? I wonder if he recommend the risk of ruining a gasket again or if he has a new way of punch those holes. |
