MazdaSpeed MX-5 upgrade questions.

I have an 04 MazdaSpeed MX-5 and from what I've read it has 8.5 pounds of boost and around 178 HP. (to the crank I'm sure)

Q:1 My goal is 200HP so I only need to gain an extra 22HP. Any recommendations? I have done the search but I haven't found any threads building on the MazdaSpeed which has a factory turbo.

Q:2 How do I increase it to 10 pounds and will that hurt the stock engine/turbo?

Q:3 How do I make the pshhht louder when the wastegate kicks in? :noob:

Sorry for the 3 questions in one thread but I didn't want to crowd the forum with 3 different threads.

Thanks in advanced, Josh

AEM or FM intake, larger dp & exhaust, add a manual boost controller and boost gauge, set boost to 10 psi and you will be at or above your goal. The stock ECU has been able to handle this type of set up. Any more and you should start looking at other ECM.

Also, the whoosh you want is outta the blow off/recirc valve... and you're not going to get it with the stock ecu because that air is metered... if you vent to atmosphere the car is going to spike rich as it has already measured that air. Also, I believe that the stock valve has problems holding above 8psi because if its design, you might wanna get a DSM valve... but really, read this.

I made 200 with a hydra, an AEM intake, intercooler and a full exhaust.
You don't really even need the hydra ems to do it.

well if he moves the MAF after turbo he could get a bov, as long as the bov is preMAF in the intake piping.

I ran VTA on my msm for a while on the stock ecu/maf position. It seemed to tolerate it.

you can have a VTA if shuts/seals all the way at idle or just get a hydra.

200 RWHP isn't too difficult (or expensive) on the MSM. I see somebody has already linked to mazda-speed.com. You can take the IHI up above 10lbs if you bypass the electronic boost cut, but with your goals that's unnecessary. Most MSM owners seem to use recirc valves rather than BOVs. They're reasonably loud if you care about that sort of thing.

Replace the stock throttle body inlet and recirc valve early on.
