Default Mechanical Overrev

Last night I was running through the gears and misshifted to 3rd from the top of 4th gear. I was datalogging at the time and the log showed 8750rpms, obviously I got back on the clutch as quick as I could. Afterwards the car seemed fine; idled and drove fine, with no odd noises or anything, but I just babied it the 5 minutes home.

Aside from the "your an idiot" comments, do you guys have any advise or recommendations? Should I just forget it and see what happens? Or is there something I should pull apart and inspect? Maybe I just suck at searching but I couldn't find much in the way of suggestions.

This was on a stock '00 engine w/ forged rods, a little over 300whp.

You're an idiot.

But seriously, it happens. We've all done it. Either you stretched a rod or you didn't, and at only 8.7k RPM on forged rods, I'm betting you didn't. No knocking sounds? No uneven running? Man up and keep driving that bitch.

Thanks Joe. Everything seemed fine, but it was tough to hear anything over all the crying. No knocking and it was running smooth.

Also, the car holds its own against a LS1 NA... until you put it in 3rd at 95mph.

I've done this twice. Once i was already at 8500rpm and money shifted. Tach was buried.
If mine is still working, i'm sure you're fine too. Though, i'm on a pretty heavily built engine.

I've done this once but it was from 5th to 2nd at like 100mph. It was apparent very quickly that something was broken and then my block got a window installed after about 4 more seconds.

I think you're more likely to have damaged something in the valvetrain than the forged rods. But, not much you can do about it now . . . so drive!!

And . . . you're an idiot . . . and so am I.

Thanks for the reassurance guys. I'll post if the weakpoint decides to reveal itself. I'm sure the oil pump, rods, and valve train were all not to happy with those kind of rpms.

Is that with the new MKTurbo exhaust?

I did top of 5th to 4th once with the forged rods and BE pump and nothing assploded yet. ^^Ryan G made an inspection hole in his block but his rods were stock.

Yes sir! I need to overlay a virtual dyno run. It was logging like 270whp with a 3" exhaust into a stock MSM muffler and made 332whp with your 3" exhaust. Nice little 60whp gain.

Holy ****, that's honestly a LOT more than I would have expected...

Oh, but your MSM was probably choking the **** out of your setup lol. I don't know what's more impressive, the fact that you got a jump of 60 with the new exhaust or that you were making 270 with an MSM muffler!

Forged rods means you were fine. You had some valve float most likely but not for very long. Should be ok.

This is my thought as well. If it still runs fine, you're probably fine.

EDIT: Actually, I used to spin my rods only motor to 8,500 all the time, as in every time I drove it it saw 8,500 a few times. I know you went a bit higher but only once. I think you'll be ok.
