I often open the bonnet of my car and say "man, I wish this was harder to work on and had a gearbox made of glass"

Would it be so bad with the front and center diff removed? You're loading the gears less since it's converting to 2wd... In any event... PPG options

No idea, not a Subaru guy so have no real clue about how good/bad the boxes are in real life.

BRB, puking. The swap that literally no one asked for, but we got anyway. I thought we were trying to push the vape bois away from miatas, not attract them

So just conjecture?

I had a 2002 WRX glass trans hold just fine back in 2004 with a vf34. Autocross and rallycross. I must have great luck with transmissions.

They aren't hard engines to work on. Except spark plugs in this case...

Yeah, 100% conjecture on my part there.

As far as working on, for me it's all about ease of access. I'm lazy.

I just see the heads tucked down there and figure it's going to be a dick to reach anything that's not the alternator.
A lot is probably just unfamiliarity, since i've pretty much owned inline 4s my whole life.
But i'm also petty when it comes to ease of maintenance, and consider V6s to be **** too.

Owned a V6 once, decided to never own one again.
**** having 3 timing belts, **** even the smallest job starting with "remove the intake manifold", etc, etc.
And all to have something that's got barely more than 4cyl power, with heaps more fuel use and complexity.

The swap specifies it's for NA motors... Like... why would you want that? What a waste of time.

I owned a Subaru once, and it blew up twice on me in 5k miles of basic hwy daily driving before I quit on it and sold it off. Meanwhile, the 145k mile BP4W in my NB has been flogged endlessly between the street and track and it doesn't even burn oil (let alone leave me stranded).

The lack of desire to put an EJ in anything that I own cannot be overstated. I can appreciate the outside of the box thinking to get it to fit though.

Maybe if it was awd, then it would be cool. Otherwise the EJ is unimpressive at best in every way imaginable.

playerhaters ball in here

....but yeah. the EJ isn't anything special, what makes a subaru cool is the "overall-ness" of it but mostly the turbo and awd. take away the turbo and the awd and you end up with fail and aidz.

Why would you ever want to swap the POS that is the EJ251 in a Maiata? Piston slap, head gaskets, oil leaks, coolant leaks.... Like, really?

At least with the B series engines we only get the oil leaks....

It's not like the SOHC EJ25s make any power either. 165 out of the box, so that's what, 140 wheel? And they haaaaate being turboed without being built....

I'm not sticking up for the EJ, merely making a funneh.
