Miata performance head shops
Hey all,
Anyone got a good suggestion for a shop to do work on my 99 head? I'm going to do: SS +1mm Intake and Inconel +1mm Exhaust Valve job (but how many ways?!) Supertech springs Shim Under Bucket Port+Polish Port match headers And a before/after flow test. Am I missing anything? I'd like to find a reasonable shop that knows what they're doing and has a good rep, and wont keep the thing until July if I ship it out in February. Obviously I'd also like to keep a bottle on costs. |
The name BogusSUV comes to my mind, I don't know how far from you he is located...?!

PM BogusSVO. Here is one of his many threads :https://www.miataturbo.net/engine-pe...urfaced-70436/

I think Emilio from 949 Racing uses Keegan Engineering. I think they have their own CNC program for BP heads and then hand finish everything.

I have an entire engine at Keegan Engineering at the moment. So far he has been good dealing with. Emilio uses him, so figured he knows what he is doing. Its a '99 getting head work and then put back together with a built bottom end. I asked him about flow test figures, he told me he doesn't release any flow figures, that most people just look at the peak number and don't see the whole pictures. And that it always gets back to a competitor and he isn't in business to educate them. He said he will come up with something to show me without giving away any secrets... If you would like I can get back to you with what I end up finding out. The engine should be done this week.

I'd heard about Keegan, but haven't heard how much they are charging. My dad tells me CNC is good stuff, consistently fast motors since all of the porting should be nearly identical. Anyone on here actually have one of their heads?
|
Yeah that would be great Luke, lemme know. I want to make sure I get it done right, shoot me a ballpark for what they're charging for the headwork (how much is being done?) if you can.
|
He had quoted me about middle of last year. With being as long as it has, and him not having rates on his website, I am sure he would prefer you to contact him for pricing. That, and if things have changed since, I would hate to mislead anyone reading this. He is very responsive, just tell him what you have and what you are looking to have done and he will probably shoot back to with you several options/pricing. If you want to PM me in the near future, I can let you know how my dealings with him ended up. I'll try to remember to get back to you on what he tells me about the head work...
|
Luke have you heard anything from him recently? I heard in the grape vine that he is moving to a different shop right now but I have no idea how accurate that is.

I contacted Keegan about head work a while back at Emillio's recommendation. They were professional, detailed and emailed me quotes quickly. I couldn't afford them and wound up getting a TSE built long block using a stock VVT head. That said, if you spent all the money on the hardware, make sure it's done right. Head work is black magic, might as well use someone with a proven track record of building winning motors.

Valves, springs and SUB kit ordered. I'll need new Valves seals and SUB lash caps (and valve cover gasket), but what else am I missing? Feel like it's missing something..
