What harnesses are where. Lots of info that is missing. I am going to assume that you are using the 92 engine compartment harness and 01 dash harness. You have to have the whole imobilizer system in there. Ecu, antenna, Imobilizer box (that is programed to ECM), programable key, and factory scan tool to program box to ecm. Is all this in the car? Do you have the right scan tool? Like I said lots of info missing. With a piggy back or stand alone you can bypass all this. Good luck with this it can be a pain in the ***.

Have a great day,
Jared

ok to clear things up i have a 92 chassis harness including dash harness and the 01 engine harness a have wired all wires coming from connector x16 (according to mazda canada wiring diagrams i have the manuals) to the 92 dash and chassis harness everything in that respect is connected and operating correctly. i do have the programing procedure but cant seem to get the immobilizer to take a program and im not getting any immo error codes.
hope this is a little more info to go on.
thanks
Kris.

You made no mention of the Imobilixer box, or the antenna. As y8s mentioned the imobilizer box needs to be from the same car. The box can be programed to the factory ECU. As I stated you will need to have a factory scan tool to do this if my memmory serves me right. Do you have all the parts and are they from the same car? With out that info we CAN'T help you. New keys can be used and will have to be programed to the Imobilizer unit. The Imobilizer is matchd to the ECU. So if they are not from the same car they will not work. The imobilizer box can only be programed to one ECU. So if it is a used unit then your fucked.

Have a great day,
Jared

thanks for the input all
both the ecu and immobilizer are from separate used units but i was using the factory MMDS scan tool and there are no options on the menus for immobilizer and the factory progaming procedure does not say the immobilizer needs to be programed to the ecu even when replacing with new unit... and the tech at my local shop was under the impression that the immobilizer system is separate from the ecu and just changes the frequency of the B+ that the ecu gives the immobilizer so the ecu knows there is a immo system with coded key attached.......

I just put together an 01 caught on fire and burnt to a crisp and got a donor car and had to swap the complete harnesses soo yes you need the same immobilizer box and ecu and key from one used 01 car

Like I said the keys are not the main issue you will just have to program them. Which can be done to many different cars as long as it turns the cylender. Is this tech a Mazda tech or just a tech. There was a recall that was performed on the 01's that required replacement of the ECM for somg reasons. While doing th erecall all keys had to be brought in to the dealer. This was so that they could reprogram them for the new Imobilizer unit that they had to install since they replaced the ECM. But don't trust me what do I know I just worked for a Mazda dealership as a tech. Also If you do some research you will find a TSB on this. Seeing as how you ae in the land to the north I will for give you for not knowing about the recall since it was a CARB issue. I still have not heard that you the antenna installed. If you don't know what I am talking about let me know.

Have a great day,
Jared

The imobilizer is tied in line to the ignition. It will run for a few seconds then die. You may not have to "program" the new unit It may just do so when it is in stalled and the key is turned on. Most of the time the ECU can be programed to many different Imobilizer units but the Imobilizer can only be "programed" to only one ECM.

Have a great day,
Jared
