MK1 1.6 Turbo Overfueling

Here's the issue.

A few weeks back I swapped out my old tired 1.6 engine with more than 230k kms with a fresher, direct replacement 1.6 with 68k miles.

It had been laying up around 2 years before I got hold of it but it started up with no drama. When I went to take it a drive though, it hesitated throughout the rev range, not just on boost and when you give it a blurt of the throttle when idling you can hear the same misfire/hesitation.

I put in new NGK BKR7EIX11 plugs and new 8.5mm Magnacor HT leads so spark shouldn't be an issue. I reused the injectors from the old engine as they are purple/red top Denso 550cc ones from an 89 RX7 that seem to be working fine. Each spark plug is black and sooty although I've only driven it around a mile and had it running in the garage which to me suggests overfueling. The Innovate AFR gauge is reading between 12-14ish. I also installed a new coolant temp sensor at the back of the engine.

I'm thinking the problem may be electrical in nature. Anyone any advice on how to hunt down the issue?

Does TunerStudio or the MegaSquirt software allow any kind of diagnostic facility to assist in tracking down the problem?

Any help or advice appreciated, Summer's here and I wanna get out there!

Forgot to add that all plugs where gap checked and were set to the recommended dimensions and hot starts are a bit of an issue also.

You might have ruined your $9/each spark plugs by gapping. IIRC, my NGK's said pretty clearly do not gap. The little nib of iridium is dreadfully easy to dislodge with a gap tool.

Before you get torn to shreds, I'll lay out your 2 options.

#1, go to MSExtra.com and read the documentation until your eyes bleed, then repeat the next day until you have a vague idea of what you're doing.

#2, pay someone to tune your car.

If you don't know how to take a datalog, you've got some serious reading to do.

Nah I'd be fairly confident that the plugs are fine, I think they were actually set to the correct gap when they were checked.

#1 I've actually had a read through that a good while ago and it actually made sense to me so I think after another read or two I should have a good grasp of it.

#2 Someone was paid to put the current map on the car and the same person will be paid to do it again when I get round to it. I wouldn't have the confidence/patience to map it myself.

Right on, I just figured someone who didn't know how to take a datalog hadn't read it at all.

ctrl + L or it's in the datalogging menu (go figure). Use MegaLogViewer to view the results with pretty graphs.

Took a quick datalog, I'll attach a link to the .msl file in the hopes that someone can have a look at it and tell me what's going on.

The Air:Fuel is all over the place and the Rear Bank O2 Voltage is the same.
