Love the db reference;) |
Sell your 97. Get a 90 miata. Since they will no longer need to pass emission if im correct. Then get turbo kit used, mega squirt. Injectors 550 or bigger. Have fun with 220whp thats about 13 sec 1/4 mile car. I ran a 13.2 1/4 @ sacramento speedway on cheap 91 ca gas. Full interior ac/power steering. Street tires. when you get bored build a motor and get the 300whp and run 12s.

You could pass to the Dark Side. I do believe that the FastForward Supercharger is CARB legal. Talk to him, maybe you can go near 300 and stay carb legal...
Miata Supercharger Kit - Standart FFS Kit |
FFS will not get you 300HP. Maybe 190 if you're lucky. Realistically, 180-185.
|
Oh, as I do not know the CA laws, I was wondering if you could start with a FFS and upgrade it while still staying CARB legal
|
Nope, that's it. Mods negate CARB certification.
|
Helpful tip for the OP:
Do a few MONTHS of endless searching, reading, searching and reading. Zero questions until you have a solid plan. This includes parts, prices and labor estimates. Or you could keep on your current route and end up like me, with negative infinity props and very hard stigma to overcome. Edit: I just noticed my negative props are still increasing without a post in over a month. Learn from that. |
If you can fabricate and are resourceful and didn't need to meet CARB, it can be done for pretty close to $3k. Problem being that I don't think any of those three apply to the OP.

You forgot he has to build the engine for 300rwhp. So unless he doesn't use forged pistons a built engine alone will run $2k on the cheap side and $4k-$6k on the high side.

This thread is useless. It's comical though, but still useless.

Rods are all that's required to hit 300hp on a good condition engine. So no I didn't forget.
It's also worth mentioning that without good injectors ($$$), a good turbo ($$$), a good manifold, big exhaust, and some sort of intake manifold solution, it's going to spool like shit and idle like shit. I'd rather have a 240whp car that drives nice and idles at stoich than a 300whp car that won't idle leaner than 12:1 and makes no power under 4k. |
I'm very surprised this thread has lasted 2 pages with even any thoughtful answers.
OP: If you have to ask the questions you're asking. None of this is achievable by you. The only way you will have a 300hp miata is if you send it to someone to do it for you. In that case you really don't need to know what you need do you? Go drop it off write a blank check. the nice part of me will give you this. https://www.miataturbo.net/diy-turbo...k-links-56507/ The real answer is if you want carb legal 300hp miata. go v8 swap. then you will have a "muscle miata" |

$3k is still low. You aren't getting in and out of the motor for less than $1k (rods, gaskets, hone, rings), and that assumes you have the tools and technical fortitude to properly assemble it yourself. You also need a clutch, a 6-speed, hotside parts, a turbo, an ECU and fuel system parts, wideband, etc. If you weld your own manifold, use a cheap turbo, and build your own motor, I could see $5k, but not $3k.
