na 1.6 cam sensor to a crankshaft sensor

i have a 92 1.6 that came with the cam angle sensor . and a engine out of a 99 threw 01 jdm 1.6 (for $200) but it cam with a crankshaft position sensor. dos any one know if i can wire the new engine to my stock ecu.

Stock ecu? NB6 sensors should be the same at NB1 1.8. But I can't recall anyone doing a swap with the stock ECU because here in US the engine is a different size and standalone ECU is required.

There is probably a cap on the back of the head that is blocking where the cam angle sensor used to be before they moved to using crank position sensors on the newer models. You should be able to take that cap out, install your old cam angle sensor and be good to go.

^^ this.

The BP4W head has the cap, so I would imagine the later B6 to as well.

You'll need to pull the rocker cover and confirm that the cam has the appropriate slot thing on the back of it to drive the CAS, I cant remember if it does on the BP, and no idea on the B6

No- the NB 1.6 cam doesn't have the slot for the NA CAS - I tried this in 2008... https://www.miataturbo.net/megasquir...-97-cas-25662/

So he can reuse the NA6 cam then?

StanTheMan Sep 9, 2019 10:09 PM

here in AU they weld a slot on the back of the cam to fit the CAS on these particular engines

maybe get in touch with them maybe they can help you.

might be kinda exy for you to send your cams to Australia and then back again though

would probably be cheaper to pick up an 2nd hand MS and a trigger wheel & split the signal

if the engine is already in your car . what have you got to loose? split the signal see if it works on your OEM ECU.

He could.

But then he'll need to spend the time/money on buying/grinding shims to set the valve lash correctly.

Or use the HLA from the NA6 head, and confirm that the the NB-B6 head still has the correct oil feed holes for HLA to work.

The BP4W definitely has the CAS drive slot and I would think the B6 would as well.

Not the late NB/NBFL B6 engines - only available outside the US
