NA vs NB 1.8 Throttle Body Differences
What are the differences in the throttle bodies on the NA's vs NB's?
Specifically wanting to know why when ordering the Skunk2 there is a drop down for either model. Ive done a bit of searching and see some say they are the same, while some say they are different. Thanks |
IAC is a hugely different adapter, and the TPS is a different bolt spacing, they use an adapter for the NA TPS, no adapter for the NB. Keep this in mind if you're using an NA throttle body on an NB manifold, since the TPS already hits the valve cover.

Hmm thats what i thought. I saw that the "adapter kits" that the 2 different Skunk2 TB's come with are very different. I reached out to Skunk2 to see if i could buy just the adapter stuff but no luck.
If anyone else has leads let me know. In other news i scored 4 NA 1.8 Skunk2 manifolds BNIB really cheap and will be selling them if anyone is interested. For sale post to come soon. |
Yes I've asked for just the adapter kits with no luck either.

Correct, the NB manifolds curve back towards the head, NA8 and S2, to a greater degree, angle away from the head.

If what you said is right, I'll be pretty sad, because my boost piping will no longer match, when I swap a BP4W into my NA. |
It’s close enough for charge pipes to fit, the na8 tps is 1/4” off the valve cover, NB is the same, but the TPS is a 1/4” thinner. So you can take the na8 throttle body off and shove it back on with the thicker TPS. But it wouldn’t work with another 1/4” adapter spacer.

Digging up an older thread, but I have a Skunk2 intake and Skunk2 throttle body I am planning to use when swapping a VVT into my 1.6 car. I have a full VVT motor I pulled from a car with the harness.
I’m realizing it has a 94-97 Skunk2 throttle body, not the Skunk2 NB throttle body. So from what I am reading I will be able to use the NB TPS (just leave the adapter off), but not the IACV. I would then need to run a IACV from an NA1.8. I’m planning to run an MS3x to run the car on. It’s a full track car, no street driving. Car will be an N/A build aiming for 170whp Would there be any issue running the NB TPS and NA IACV with Megasquirt? I read that there’s no luck getting the adapter only from Skunk2, so I guess I would have to buy the NB throttle body, unless someone has an NB to trade for NA. |
Just get an NB throttle body, wiring is super easy, less stress with IC-piping etc
|
No IC piping, but I agree, no reason to run the NA throttle body whatsoever. I think I have a couple I would love to sell, but guess it is going to be cheaper to source one locally.
|
To be clear it’s a Skunk2 NA throttle body
so buying the Skunk2 NB is $260 or so That’s why I am thinking to use what I have. I tried to clear up my first post to prevent confusion |
In a similar boat here. About to attempt running an NB TB with NB IACV and TPS on my 95 NA. As long as the connectors are rewired correctly, an ms2pnp can run the NB electronics without issues, correct?
Haven't really seen a straight answer before. |
Yes, 90-05 are all 2 wire IAC valves, and as long as you have the correct pigtail, you can tune them with any 90-05 standalone.
Hopefully that answer is straight enough. |

Regarding MegaSquirt, Does the NB IAC require the diode wired in between the 2 wires in the pigtail ike the NA IAC?
Can the NB TB connect direct to TPS from NA TB or is adapter needed? |
Both the electrical plug and the physical attachment is different between NA/NB TPS IIRC. I think they'll bolt up, but the throttle bodies use different methods of locking onto the sensor.
|
Is there an adapter for the TPS?
