Na6 , built head how power on stock bottom end
hey guys, Ive been a member here a while and never yet posted.
I'm Dann, From Asutralia. I am on my provisional licence (so no turbo's or v8's for me quite yet, and no 'performance engine mods') and have just ironed the bugs out of my new drivatrain, which includes a freshly rebuild bottom end, lightened and balanced with oem replacement parts, a good port and polish and a set of reasonable cams (Intake is 260 duration, 8.2mm lift - Exhaust is 265, 8.8mm lift), link Computer, brass buttom clutch and lightened 1.8 flywheel with a 6 speed and (unfortunately 1.6) 4.3 lsd. It also has some other bits and pieces adjustable cam gears different sensors Intake, extractors exhaust etc etc My question is, I plan on keeping this engine and boosting it for a club racer (its regularly in club hillclimbs atm) and doing circuit days. Am i stupid to keep this engine and boost it? As i have a reasonable base to start with is it really going to be worth going BP? What sort of power could i expect to make boosted? 220hp? Thanks in advance, Dann |
Welcome to here. A fresh 1.6 will easily meet your power goals.

Hey mate thanks for the fast reply. Im looking for enough to keep with the quicker evo's at circuit days, I have plenty of suspension work , but i feel i need more bracing. I have never been in a 250hp mx5 the fastest is a friend of mines 130rwkw supercharged 1.8 NA.
Question is, how quick is 220 hp in an NA, are we talking about high 13's? Thanks, Dann |
Probably mid to low 13's if driven properly.
