NB 1.6 Into NA

Hey guys, so I recently picked up a 1.6 to swap into my miata and upon picking it up I found out it's a JDM engine. After looking at it a bit more and comparing it to the 1.6 in the car I've come to the conclusion that it's a 1.6 out of a NB (or a late model NA) since all (or most) of the 1.6 out of the NA's are the same.

I want this to be as painless as possible to put in the car but I've noticed some pretty big differences.

First off there is no CAS on the usual spot, but it looks like there is a CAS sensor in the front of the valve cover on the intake cam gear.

Secondly, there is a knock sensor in the block by the oil filter.

Lastly, I noticed that the injectors are totally different. The part number on them is 195500-3030 and they're Denso injectors. I can't find any flow rating for these injectors which is frustrating since I don't know which injectors to run.

So if anyone has done this swap before or has any insight into the wiring that'd be awesome. I'll post some pictures up later of all the differences I can find, but it looks exactly like this. http://www.ebay.com/itm/99-00-MAZDA-...-/231361661064

Highly doubt someone's done this swap unless it's someone from Europe.

We would, but you'd basically be wiring for any NB engine, so you might as well find a 1.8.

There should be a cap (underneath the coils?) that you can remove and install your CAS into, and just leave the front cam sensor unplugged. Otherwise it should just require some minor fabrication to mount grounds and wiring plugs.

The knock sensor can be removed if you have no way of using it.

No, the CAS into NB 1.6 swap doesn't work, the a NB 1.6 cam does not have the "nubs" to take the CAS. I tried this some years ago, when I started the whole Megasquirt thing...

So there ya go, you'd have to go MS to use and control the NB cam sensor, and at that point I'd just put in a '99-'00.

Well I'm getting the ECU and wiring harness for it. I know plenty of people have swapped in 1.8's out of NB's but they reused the stock ECU. Has anyone done the swap and used the NB ECU?

Don't waste your time swapping over the entire wire harness and NB ecu, especially if it's all for a 1.6. There is a reason people use megasquirt for their particular model year.
Either use megasquirt or swap a 1.8 following flyin miatas' write up, or both.
Hint: do both.

Ok well I'm going to compare the wiring of both the sensors and hopefully they both send the same signal and I can splice it in

Other differences I've noticed are that the intake mani is a 2 piece design, the header is a different design too, the throttle is also different from what I remember. As stated, the intake cam doesn't have the extension for the CAS. There's probably some other small stuff I'm forgetting but when I remember I'll post them up.

Ok I did a bit more research. I should just be able to splice the ground and power wires together with the harness for the CAS and then wire each signal wire for the cam and crank sensors into the CAS harness. Other than that it all should be fairly straightforward.

I do appreciate the advice guys but I'm not looking to drop coin on a standalone right now. So buying a megasquirt is kind of out of the question right now. I'll try to document everything I can for anyone who finds themselves in the same situation as me.

I'll be starting the swap after I get back from Thanksgiving break. If anyone has any particular questions let me know so I can answer it before I finish the swap.
