NB intake manifold on NA head

Hello I happened to have blown my 99 miata engine completely head and block....soo I have a 94-97 engine and I want to put that 1.8L engine in the car for the time being.

what is required to make a 99 intake manifold fit on a 94-97 head? anyone have any experience of photos on whats the difference?
thanks
Ryan K

The flanges wont line up. You would need to cut the NB flange off and weld it to the NA manifold.

how far off is it does anyone have photos or a visual reference between the two motors and intake manifolds on them...hrmm i really dont want to have to buy another 99 motor they are soo fing expensive

just make a custom mani.
I see no point in trying to make this one work for such little if any gains

Why not just use an NA 1.8 Manifold?

Ding ding ding!

Why not just use the 99 head and the 94 block?

gdnimr0d 09-10-2010 09:49 AM

beacuse when you pop the hood and look at it you can clearly tell that it is the older 1.8 engine in the car....duh im trying to hide the fact that it is an older 1.8 engine in the car and still have the 99 manifold on it because then other than the lifter noise you cant tell

oh and my 99 head is blown completely along with the block and i have a free complete 94-97 engine

So buy a '99 head and put it on the new block. Will also drop your compression ratio a little.

FM made one fit just by adding more metal to the flange and drilling new bolt holes on the bottom where they welded the aluminum. Sorry doing this on a phone.

ITT OP trying to scam future buyer?

gdnimr0d 09-10-2010 05:47 PM

hahaha I just wanted to see if it could be done easily looks like ima have to buy a 99 head and get a 1.8 block and slap it all back together thanks for the input guys

I think we should discuss more about how your head is blown, because it's awfully damn hard to render a head unusable. I did this to a Supertech last year (too much boost/timing, too little intercooler):

and the head from that motor is currently powering a 350whp Rotrex car.

The port heights are 3/4" of an inch off, way too much to "just add a little metal and redrill" or whatever. In addition, the '99+ manifolds suck balls. The only thing they are good for is to cut the flange off so you can graft a B18 manifold onto it.

someone sabotaged the customer car and dropped a bolt in the motor ....cylinder number four piston and rod shot out of the block smashed through the head and bent all valves on cylinder 4 and a piece of metal made it into cylinder two and smashed up the valves and ruined the valve guides and seats its the worst blown motor i have ever seen...but yeah it was sabotaged by somebody dunno who dont really care just rebuilding another car to get it road worthy

oh and the motor was dead stock never modded

hahah and atleast you had a piston to show for it...mine shot out of the block..if you really want carnage photos i can post them up but its not pretty

Actually, the port height difference between the BP05 and BP4W head is only ~3/8". It is possible to redrill the top holes and add metal for the bottom holes. I've done it on a Protege manifold before I made a custom manifold.
