Default Need casting number for the light 1994-96 1.8L Protege crank

I've got my 2002 VVT engine out of the car and the crank is pulled out.

Would like to go back with the 10 lbs lighter 1994-1996 1.8L Protégé crank and try that out.

Need the casting number on the crank to order one(remanufactured).

Just go pull one from a protege in a junkyard. If you can even get one from Mazda still (I believe the light crank part number has been superseded by the fully counterweighted one) it’s gonna cost you north of $1100. You’ll likely have to have the NOS one worked on anyway if it’s been sitting on a shelf for two decades. Save the money and head to the yard/eBay Ż\_(ツ)_/Ż

Your solution is one way to get a crank, but it may not be the correct crank, and it's much more costly, and alot more effort.

I can make a phone call and get a reman crank shipped to me for about $300 , but I need the correct casting number, and there are 3 different castings for the Mazda 1.8L for 1994 to 1996.

There are 4 different Protege cars these came in, and 3 different crank castings are known for the Mazda 1.8L(could be multiple platforms), so are all the Protege 1.8's from 94-96 using the light crank?

I have a suspicion that the light crank only came in 1 of these Vin pairs:
VIN A (5th digit), 1.8L, VIN 2 (8th digit), AT
VIN A (5th digit), 1.8L, VIN 2 (8th digit), MT
VIN A (5th digit), 1.8L, VIN 4 (8th digit), AT
VIN A (5th digit), 1.8L, VIN 4 (8th digit), MT

Neck size is 1.063", with Casting Number

Have you asked this question on a general Mazda forum, or even a Protege-specific forum?

According to this thread (specifically post 15) ((and post 13 as well)) it looks like BP02 is your number. Also, that OP seems to indicate that light crank is specific to the automatic BP protégés, as well as the older SOHC BP-DE motors.

Happy hunting!
