NEED HELP. Efr6258 leaking oil on compressor side
I've got a efr6258 on a kraken low mount. Been having oil getting into compressor side and into intercooler pipes. I've tried everything.
Currently have both vavle cover ports going to a VTA catch can (lines are -10). Oil feed is -4 oil drain is 5/8 barb going to a 45° degreee -10 fitting on the pan. I've drilled out the fitting so both sides are 1/2inch. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...8e7a4a3d55.jpg any suggestions? |
I’ve got a similar issue going on with my 6758, I have a thread about it somewhere if you want to search. My motor makes 100psi cold, 30 hot at idle, 40+ anything above idle. BW says to keep it under 60psi. I’ve currently got a turbosmart oil pressure regulator that’s supposed to keep it at 40psi. didnt seem to work, but noticed the OPR’s return was similarly restricted like my turbo drain, so I enlarged it to hopefully drain back more to the pan. Time will tell, but I still think there’s an issue with the CHRA.

Yeah my oil pressure is always under 50 psi. Ive read up on your thread. It sounds like yours still isn't fixed?? |
Throw a pressure transducer in there (can be temporary) and monitor/log crank case pressure over all operating conditions. Make sure you use one that has a smaller dynamic range (a -15-30 psig would be my recommendation). Anything over a psi or 3 can be problematic.
Edit: you can use a hose stuck on the dipstick tube for this |

You can run a restrictor before the OPR. This does 2 things... 1) limits the flow to not overwhelm the regulator, and 2) reduces "wasted flow", the OPR is a shunt. 100psi through an an6/an4/an3 unrestricted is going to be a ton of flow.

You haven't been blowing intercooler pipes off have you? When I turned up the boost on my Garrett turbo, I blew off the first 90 degree turn coupler a few times. One time I didn't immediately pull over and fix it due to the lack of tools, and I noticed oil had started to pool up in the compressor outlet. I fixed it, wiped it down, and then checked for oil later and there wasn't any there.
Just something to consider, even though your situation is very different. |
Update
Did a compression and leak down test. Both passed perfectly. 0 leakdown.
I hooked my boost guage up to my dip stick tube and went for a drive. The guage never moved once, not even the slightest. Is it possible my drain isn't sufficient? What else can I try? |

well, you are starting to get into potential defect area. Did you confirm that the drain wasn't blocked inside the pan by the pickup tube, or sit below the full oil level? Is your air filter restrictive enough to get negative pressure in the compressor housing while off-boost?

I have also run into a wall getting my EFR6758 serviced. All the usual shops are refusing due to the lack of service parts.
The official line from Borg (and pretty much every shop I called) is that the EFR is not serviceable. I am having a new compressor wheel installed and balanced on my backup 67, if the shops did not flat out refuse the work, they offered no guarantee that the unit would survive disassembly for balance. |

SOLVED
So today I decided to do a compression test. 149 dry and 215psi with oil. My issue is definitely a result of having over 60psi increase from oil meaning my rings are not sealing. I only ever did a dry compression test and leakdown test, both showed perfect numbers... I'll need to have my new rebuilt motor rebuilt again unfortunately. I'd recommend to anyone else to also do this test.
