Need to refresh my motor any good shops ??
Hey guys I have a 1.6 and I lost compression in Cylinder 3 I want to refresh my whole motor and rebuild anyone know any good shops thanks

Dont spend $2-3k rebuilding a shitty 1.6 when for around $1k you can find a good used 1.8 and swap it in.
|
No, you don’t.
1.8 swap time. |
Friends don't let friends rebuild 1.6's.
Rebuilding it would cost a couple of grand. You can get one from the junkyard for $2- 300. You can get a 1.8 for slightly more and it will bolt right in. Mazworx is a good machine shop. |
I don’t want to build a 1.6 just put everything stock some arp studs and that’s it I already have a flying Miata turbo kit don’t want nothing crazy just want a shop to make my 1.6 brand new again 0miles and set up my boost I know some of you might think it’s the wrong way to go but I just want to make a reliable car
|
First of all, if you open up a Miata motor for ANY reason and DON'T put in forged rods, in the words of @18psi ... that should be illegal. ESPECIALLY if you have plans for boost.
+1 on Mazworx if you're in Florida, they do great work and are familiar with the BP platform. Your best bet, as others have stated, get a good low mileage 1.8, with warranty from an importer if you can. You'll be much better off and will spend way less than you would on a rebuild of your 1.6. Doesn't make sense to pay someone to re-ring a B6. If you want to be cheap, do it yourself. If you're shelling out machine work $$$ start off with a 1.8. /thread |

A 1.8 and a new manifold (you're turbo right?) would be cheaper than paying a shop to work on your 1.6.
|
Sounds bad. Pay scrap price for another 1.6 and slam it in.
|
If I bought a 1.8 I would eventually refresh that motor to I want something that will not give me prom lens
|
Also sounds silly. Slam it in.
|
Swap in a good 1.8, sell your FM 1.6 manifold, buy a 1.8 FM manifold. Profit.

Location would be nice to determine what shops might be near you. Check with your "local" Spec Miata shop and they likely have a preferred builder for B6/BP motors.

Thanks midten im from Massachusetts but I’m not afraid to pay to get the motor shipped somewhere

OP, Trackspeed builds and ships zero-mile fresh 1.8L/1.9L motors, but as alluded to above, we won't participate in the mistake that is building a 1.6L motor. |

In which case any reputable machine shop in your area can rebuild a miata motor. Just find a shop with good reviews, ring them up and see if they have experience with miata motors. Any good machine shop can hone/bore/deck/lap valves/turn cranks. Then measure clearence and assemble. One thing I 100% recommend is throw in $230 Ebay or $300 Manley forged rods in there, to bump reliability from 220hp to 300+ |
Chris Graham at Race Engineering in Salisbury, NC. His Miata motors dominate the southeast, but he also has a pretty diverse engine building background in general.

I've had some work done by bessette motor works in Charlton and been happy. Dropping my head off to get refreshed and a friend is getting my old block cleaned up and having a rods only motor assembled.
His prices are reasonable, but he's a drag guy that works out of equipment out of his garage. He's been around for a while and lives out in the woods so it's a cool setup. He has a pretty badass pantera he's building. If you call him tell him the miata kid sent you. He made fun of how tiny the motor was because he usually works on V8s. (where's the rest of it?) |
