Default need some insight please

i feel like i am overlooking something. ive really been considering swapping a 99-00 head onto my 03 for two reasons.

1) there are very few affordable ems out there that can work with the vvt motor.

2)i dont want to drop 1000 on a hydra for a car that probably wont even make 300hp.

If i could find something for like 300-400 bucks id be happy and ive seen ems go for that much for 99-00 cars. with the money i save on a ems i could buy my wideband, head studs, gaskets the list goes on. ive also been itching to build a head. thats like my favorite part of any motor.

so i think all i would need is a 99-00 head. i could use my 03 manifold. ive already removed those gay little butterflies and EGR. and i would just need the harness from a 99-00 car wich wouldnt be a problem i think i could source one easily.

im not 100% sure if the throttle bodies are the same tho maybe someone on here could clarify on that. but yea idk what do you guys think i need some guidance.

i found a seller on ebay selling reman heads for 350 which is pretty good if you ask me ive seen ppl ask 500 for ****** used 99-00 heads. im not sure if that includes a core or not but i have a core at home if they want one.

i appreciate any imput

thanks sam

So let me get this straight: you don't want to spend the 600-700 for an EMS that will control your 03 engine but you're willing to dish out 350+another 400 for an older head and no vvt?

Might as well switch back to carburators too

i havent seen a ems that will control a vvt motor that costs 600-700 besides the one megasquirt ones that rev. built. and i dont think hes making them for ppl anymore. besides vvt barely does anything...id rather slap on some adjustable cam gears and call it a day.

Did you ask him if he can make you one or are you just assuming?
Also did you inquire with Braineak or any of ther other people that assemble them?

I just think its ridiculously retarded to ditch vvt and do all this work and spend all this money just to save what, 300 bux if that.

Read savingtons dyno and build thread and you will see that vvt does do things. Good things you want.

Why not just leave the head you have and disconnect the VVT. The motor will still run at base time you will just have to find a way to run the standard 1.8l coils. I think. I believe everything else for the most part is the same.

Not sure I'd trust a $350 "reman" head. I've seen a couple of those ads where they state they'll accept any core in any condition. No thanks. Not to mention what a valve job costs, let alone you have to buy the head. There's just no way that the work is solid.

Not sure where you're located. But if you are local enough to me (atlanta area), I will trade you a cherry BP4W head for your VVT head. Mine had about 20k miles on it. It's been sitting in an interior closet since removal. Straight swap, assuming yours is in good shape.

I'd call DIY auto tune, They have assembled units, but I think you would have to wire it up.
