New ID1000 injectors -- included paperwork?

Hey guys. I ordered a set of Injector Dynamics ID1000's on Amazon, and they arrived today. They look great, and include the connectors, but don't include any paperwork. From the reading I've been doing, I thought ID flow-matched every set of injectors and included some kind of paperwork with information about the dead-time etc that I should use in TunerStudio when tuning with these injectors.

Is that correct? If it's true that they're supposed to include that info, I can send a message to the vendor to find out what happened with it. But I don't want to start questioning the vendor if I was wrong about that :) What's supposed to come with a new set of ID injectors?

They used to include the little chart.

Now you just go on their site or google it, and its posted up.

The chart is not car-specific, so I think you'd be better off asking for other's settings here. I'd post mine but I'm at work and not near my laptop.

TheCowGod 08-12-2014 10:11 PM

Ah OK, so everything's good. Thanks, that saved me from yelling at them for nothing :) I'm still waiting on my MS3 from Reverant, so there's no rush, but if you want to send me your settings when you DO have them handy, I'd certainly like to have something to compare to.

I heard a rumor that ID was working on MegaSquirt specific dead time info. :)

My ID1000's came with a sheet with that info, I also ordered from TSE who is a sponsor and Savington has been more then helpful with any questions I had with them.

I think I might be detecting an implied suggestion in your message that I should have ordered from a forum sponsor rather than Amazon, and I'll say right now that I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment. If the price difference had been smaller, I would certainly have done that. I'm definitely the sort of person who prefers to buy from smaller vendors who support the community, even if it costs a little more than the giant chains, etc. I first checked all the forum sponsors I'm aware of, and they all seemed to have the injectors in the same general $480 range.

This set from Amazon cost $392, so almost $100 cheaper than most other places. My budget is fairly limited, so I can't ignore that big of a difference. Of course, in this thread we see an example of how I'm paying the price for that savings -- they didn't come with a spec sheet, and I had no way to order the pigtails along with the injectors so I had to go source them on eBay and hope they're decent quality. So the argument could be made that maybe even that $90 savings was a questionable tradeoff. So yes, you and I are in agreement :)

To be blunt, they're probably fake. ID has two pricing tiers, and $392 is less than what a standard dealer pays. The deeper tier is for wholesalers and requires a massive buy-in and sustained annual sales to maintain the discount. I would be stunned if a wholesaler who's made that kind of investment would turn around and dump the injectors at nearly $100 below MAP (the penalty for selling below MAP is permanent ejection from ID's dealer network).

Just sayin'

The set I got directly from Paul @ ID did not come with paperwork.

Agree and disagree. You may not be able to ADVERTISE below MAP, which is what MAP is: Minimum Advertised Pricing. But you can actually sell for whatever you want. Dictating a price is called price fixing, and that's not legal. Dictating a MAP is perfectly legal and very enforceable. I applaud companies who stick to their guns regarding MAP.

I do agree that a set of ID's on Amazon <$400 could be knock offs.

Sorry, yes. You're correct. I assumed since he was buying from Amazon that the $392 price was what was advertised to him.

Hmm, interesting, I wasn't aware of those considerations. And yeah, this wasn't one of those "add to cart to see the price" things, it was just advertised directly at that price, so I dunno what the situation was. I think I've read that Amazon does some automated price adjustments based on some kind of convoluted algorithm, which maybe was what was responsible here? I noticed the day after I placed my order, it was up to around $420-ish, and now it's back up to $480, from the same vendor. Shrug.

As far as them being fake, I hadn't thought to worry about that, and that'd certainly be a concern. Although, I dunno how sophisticated the counterfeit injector market is, but these look fairly legitimate.

Dunno. I guess I'll try them and see how it goes. And as I said, for anything I need, my first stop is the sponsors :) I'm not sure who is official sponsors, but so far I've bought an MS3 from Reverant and a DIN gauge plate from Roadster Tech, and my turbo kit will be coming from FM, so plenty of my money is going to community members :)

I purchased a set of ID 1000's last year from a suporting vendor my local engine builder flow tested them after blowing a ring land and it turn out that they had a 10% variation between the lowest flowing to the highest flowing injector (w blown ring land) at 4ms 6500rpm (they are ded on at 100% dutty) he run them wide open and ultrasomic cleaned then and got them to 4% difference but is not reccomending i use them untill they are closer should i contact ID or the vendor to see about getting them matched? Is 4% ok or not?

18psi 10-13-2014 11:13 PM

no, it is not even close to ok. who did u buy them from?

ID's are what they are because of how close they are matched.

So either you clogged them up, or someone sold you some bogus ID's.

Savington 10-13-2014 11:52 PM

Who did you buy them from? If they are genuine, they should go back to ID. I don't recall what their warranty is off the top of my head, but even if the set is out of warranty you can still get a reduced-cost replacement for the bum injector/injectors.

e: ha, looks like you bought them from me. Call me at the shop tomorrow around noon PST and I'll explain the process for getting a new one from ID.

Had them checked at Stewart Engines a pretty well known spec miata engine builder, that built my bottom end.

Can you post some more pictures of that piston? High-res from all angles. That is a weird failure.

looks like every other subaru ringland failure, literally. most of which result from det and weak ringlands

Savington 10-14-2014 02:17 PM

The lack of det damage directly above the broken ringland was odd to me. I can see it elsewhere on the piston, though.

Actually the little white dots on top of the piston are bits of paper towel, i dont see any det erosion on the top of the piston, ill get a better photo this evening.
