New Plugs: At what level do you go one step colder?
What threshold do you guys use for determining when to go to colder spark plugs?
|
Conceptually, you want plugs cold enough to prevent preignition but hot enough to not foul.
I would say for most of us the threshold is whether you're running forced induction or not. Most of the boosted folk run BKR7Es which are two steps colder than stock. I am currently n/a but the car gets tracked so I went one range colder than stock with BKR6Es for a little extra protection against preignition. They run fine with no fouling issues. |
I ran the 7's at the 230hp mark. Ill go 8's at 400+ mark but only with nitrous. If your staying boost only I'd say bkr7es's should work great with what ever your stock internal engine can handle, even up to 400hp. FYI I had a balls hard time finding the 7's. 8's were ever worse.

As soon as I turned the boost up to 10psi on my Greddy kit, I had to go to 7s.
I thought the 7s were only 1 step colder than stock. |
I've always run 6s, and thought they were stock.
I also though going up a number was colder...but can hardly find 7s. |

BKR5E-11s are stock. If you go for a trip with long durations of cruising and have 7s, take them out and throw in a set of 6s, the 7s like to foul during long cruises.
