Oil Cooler for Hot Track Days
I've googled as much as I can with mixed results. I'm looking for advice on oil coolers, specifically experiences with different brands and mounting. I would like a most pre-fabbed kit as I just want it to work the first time and try to minimize the chance of leaks and other issues. Let me know what kits you've used and how effective they worked for you. Thanks!

An oil cooler is the most effective cooling device you can add to a Miata. Much more than the best radiator out there.
A 13 or 16 row setrab cooler is perfect for up to 300hp. Mine is attached to a bracket inside the bumper and is fed cold air from the fog light hole. |
The hard thing about oil cooler kits is there is rarely a one size fits all situation. One little thing changes a lot. I am running into that right now. All I did was reinstall the intake manifold brace and now I have to make new lines (this if why I prefer reusable fittings). Plus most kits are more expensive then the components alone. Trackspeed was the only kit I saw that the sum of the whole was less then the individual parts. Start with a quality core (Setrab is what TSE used) and thermostat, -10 lines of your choice and go from there.

Here's my parts list. Do note that hose end angles were for my application and may not suit yours.

The TSE also has the correct temperature thermostatic adapter, which is otherwise difficult to source, I hear. I used the 16 row and mounted it above my FMIC.
Confession: I do not drain it when I change my oil. So I guess each change is 4 quarts new and about 1 quart old. The hoses go into the top of the cooler. |

Which intercooler setup did you go with? I am interested to see how your intercooler fits with your oil cooler.
I'm a fan, for the money, of the Vibrant 12800, which, though taller, might also work. The Precision is in between, but nearer the 12800 (6.25). DNM |
I am in the middle of installing a series-1 60 row in a ducted 7 configuration. I have both 185 and 205 degree thermostats.
