oil pump question - what is this hole for?
 

here are two pics of the oil pump that came out of the car. dude's pointing at a hole that looks like it got filled.

why was it plugged and do i plug the new one?
i don't get it...school me

I do believe this was used for a dip stick on the FWD cars using the Miata motor/block.

Yep, we had to take care of that hole on the pump I ordered for my ride.

silicone?
epoxy?
or the plug that sav mentioned?

I say invest in a cheap tap set from HB and do it right.

i'm gonna get the plug from mazda
