Preventive maintenance question...

My car has just over 100K miles - 169.000 Km, actually.

I am running about 13 psi on stock internals. The engine has never been "opened" so far.

Lately, I am going through a bit of oil. Mostly on start ups, and in the form of one single puff under heavy acceleration. About 1 qt in maybe 1000 miles or less.

The question is, should I just go ahead and install
  • rings
  • bearings
  • valve seals
  • oil pump
  • h beam rods (while I am in there, anyway)
  • new head studs

Things like timing belt and seals would of course be replaced, as well..

I would basically do a hone job, and take it from there, if the cylinders and the bearing surfaces check out.

This would save me money as well as having to rush to scrounge parts and make the time to fix a major disaster if the engine goes boom when it is least expected.

I also did a compression test recently, and all four came out at 180 psi.

What do you guys think?
Am I overthinking this, or is it a good idea?

There's not much more to it than that.

Actually, there is a whole lot more than just that..

Boring the block, oversize pistons and machining the crank are a) not cheap at all, and b) pretty damn risky if not done correctly..

180 psi dry or with oil? how much for dry, how much for with oil?

That was the dry test.
I have not done a wet test for lack of time so far..

If your compression numbers are even and that is dry you have good compression. Think about the valve seals as their wearing out is likely to cause smoke at start up, might be all you need.

that's essentially wear I was going with the questions.

valve seals are cheap... as long as you dont mix up your valves and cam caps.
