Project 300HP NA/NA

2 Attachment(s)
So a friend a few months ago brought up the idea of using a V6 AJ30 out of a Lincoln LS or a Jag. About a month ago I found a 2000 Jaguar S-type in the junkyard with 100,800 miles. After removing the valve cover, there must have been a old lady driving this one due to the amount of dried sludge in the engine. So far I'm starting to break down the engine for a short block factory rebuild. The upper end will have race heads and cams from Cat Cams. The factory weight is same if not lighter than the factory engine.

More to come in a bit....

Seefo 07-14-2014 06:29 AM

what's the draw to this engine? anything particularly better than...say the K sway that's been posted about recently?

1993ka24det 07-14-2014 06:55 AM

I've seen 418 hp and 269 ft-lbs NA with a 9K Rev limit. This engine is used in dozens of different RC's.

1993ka24det 07-14-2014 11:55 AM

AJ30 V6 dune buggy

Noble M400 1050hp the engine comes out of a Mazda6

Here is the audio of a 350-380hp Naturally Aspirated version in a Juno SS

Seefo 07-14-2014 12:30 PM

whats the plan for the rest of the drivetrain?

Dunning Kruger Affect 07-14-2014 01:23 PM

Stock 5-speed and 1.6L open rear end (need to stay STS legal).

1993ka24det 07-14-2014 04:52 PM

I will be running a 1.8 diff and a T5 trans

So Far the Pro's
Light weight
Engine is designed by Porsche
Short Block internals done by Cosworth
The engine comes in Mazda6, Lincoln LS, Jag X and S-type and numerous other cars.

Negative's
Front sump
Tall intake Manifold
Lack of after market
Factory manual trans is weak
Ford design heads, do not flow

Sparetire 07-14-2014 05:30 PM

Does/Didn't Noble use those in their cars? 400-600 HP with really nice manners from twin setups. Kinda cool. Does the T5 bolt right up with a stock and/or common bellhousing?

Yes the Noble M400 uses a twin setup on low boost it make 441 hp. The bellhousing is expensive if you don't want to go with a adapter plate. Here is the link Bellhousing (DU6T5)

Nice to see they were on top of oil changes.

those look like variable valve timing intake cams.
in which case good luck cleaning out the mechanisms and oil control valves
this engine is screaming for like a week in the hot tank lol

Leafy 07-17-2014 07:30 AM

Throw that one back and try again.

THis is the 3.0 liter version of the 2.5 v6 from the mazda6 (which shares no relation to the KLDE) right? A local built up the 3.0 liter version with a bunch of nobel parts and made some decent N/A power on an engine built for boost through some cracked up shitty ebay headers. I kind of cant wait till he gets money again because IIRC theres a PTE 6262 sitting at his house waiting on hotside parts to go in.

Gt2560rMiata 07-17-2014 10:03 AM

Take it back to the yard, that thing is junk

Oscar 07-17-2014 10:28 AM

Lulz, you couldn't pay me to run that engine. Try again.

sixshooter 07-17-2014 10:56 AM

I owned an '01 Jag S-Type 3.0 with only 88k miles that I bought to fix and flip. Two bad coils, radiator hose leaks at molded-in plastic tees, PCV hose disintegrated under the fuel rails in the middle of the vee, drive by wire (good luck with that), engine oil leaks already, bad fuel pump, bad window regulator, bad tie rod ends, fractured overflow bottle, fallen headliner, fractured center console, fractured dashboard components, and on and on.

The point is that the component quality sucked ass, especially rubber and plastic parts. It is a Ford engine and, if I recall, is also used in their minivans. It is not a narrow engine so I imagine packaging and exhaust will be compromised at best. The front sump is more fun requiring more fabrication.

I hope you enjoy it. It wouldn't have been my choice. I certainly wouldn't have picked an abused example to start with.

I was already planning if this engine has to many problems, then I was going to use it for moc up purposes until I pick up a new one. But yes it does not share any relationship to the KLDE. Like I said before, NA versions hit 400+ hp and boosted hit over 1000+.

The only thing Ford did is design the heads, Porsche designed the block and Cosworth did the crank, pistons and rods. In stock form the engine is not good on the outside, but it is strong. It might be wide but it does fit.

Here is the only one in the world that I have heard of that did this swap and to make it easy I'm not doing anything he did ;)

Leafy 07-17-2014 05:16 PM

Just be sure to return that shit to the junk yard before the warranty expires.

Sparetire 07-18-2014 11:35 AM

That engine is a miracle, it somehow manufactures bearing grease. Pour your used motor oil into it, run it off a generator or windmill or hamster team and use the results to pack hubs and what not. I bet if you ran lightweight synthetic through it you would get a good gear oil.

Seems more like a Chrysler engine than a Ford/Porsche/Cosworth. Only MOPARs have the ability to create hydrocarbons and leak them in an endless organic cycle.

cordycord 07-25-2014 12:02 PM

What EMS are you planning?

TurboTim 07-27-2014 12:27 AM

My engine looked like that. I said f-it cause I was rebuilding it anyway. Big mistake. For mockup sure, but Do not plan on using it for your actual 300 hp engine.

I have access to all sorts of fancy chemicals and cleaning equipment yet still some of that waxy sludge survived. If there's any oil galley that was blocked off after it was drilled as many are, then you are screwed.

Good luck though, it will be fun if you finish it!

williams805 07-27-2014 01:29 AM

I'll bet it got hot to make sludge like that.

I'm thinking of a mega squirt with a custom wiring harness.

I went through the engine and so far so good. Cylinder hone looks good along with the bearing surfaces even tho i'm changing all bearing, seals and gaskets. So yes as of right now I am keeping this engine. I will put up some picks soon.
