purpose of coolant reroute

Hello all. I've read quite a few threads on the coolant reroute, and I was wondering if it's done to:

A.) prevent the car from overheating,

B.) give extra cooling to the rear cylinders so more timing can be run,

C.) both of the above, or

D.) ???

From what I've read, the coolant reroute drops the temperatures a bit, but the majority of the benefit is from evening out the temperature across the different cylinders. If that's the case, I don't mind running a few degrees less timing for now. I plan on ducting a mishimoto radiator for now FWIW, and using an extractor hood.

all of the above

Prevents the car from overheating. Evens out the cooling to cylinder #4. Does this by running the coolant through the engine the way it was intended, from front to the rear of the engine. I'm using a stock replacement radiator, and with the reroute, the car stays TOO cool. Especially in the winter, I barely make it up to normal operating temps while cruising at 60mph. I have to get my speed down to about 45-50 mph to have my coolant temps get up to 160F. This is however with ambient temps at around 45 degrees Fahrenheit .

Shouldn't have any problems at all during the summer

Its all about even cooling.

Even cooling is definitely the goal of a reroute. Lower water temps is just an extra benefit resulting from the thermostat's new location is at the hottest point rather than being just above where the cold water goes into the motor.

Thanks for all the info... Looks like it would be worth doing the reroute before getting a new radiator.
