Question about 99 1.8L engine short block.

I blown up my 99 1.8L motor at track.
And I have other 96 M edition motor with tanny at home.

Will 96 1.8L engine short block fit in a 99 1.8L motor?
I know the head is difference. I just spent $600 to rebuild it.

Thx many!

Other than a .5 reduction in compression (NA 1.8L is 9:1 and 99/00 is 9.5:1) there are no differences and the 94 block can be used with no problem. I don't think the 94 can fit in a 99 1.8L motor, but if it does, please post pictures. Also, mentioning the trim package of a Miata has nothing to do with the engine that is in it...there are no differences in the engine between a base model and the top-of-the-line model.

Figure out why you blew it up before you swap another motor into it.

I'm guessing the compression will be closer to 8:1 based on the difference in shape of the piston head that enters on the '99 and the flat piston head on the older ones.

Are you 100% sure about this? I just wonder because I just swapped ’99 head to ’95 block which have stock 8.8:1 pistons

I am sure it is less. Just guessing at the range based on placing many '99 heads on earlier blocks.
