Has anyone confirmed that this VAG Audi R8 Coil Over Plug will work with VVT Miata ?

Why not LS coils

SADFab has a bracket that clears all valve covers and offers wires with them. It works.

+1, LS coils are what you want if you need an ignition upgrade. The stock VVT coils with iridium plugs are solid to 20+psi, though.

on pump gas

The hottest ignition coil is still the S2000 coil, capable of sustained power of almost 300hp/cylinder, 60psi of boost, 11000+ rpm.

yea I know the LS2 Truck Coils are powerful, but I want a Coil Over Plug solution and eliminate all spark plug wires. May be someone should start making plug boots that will adapt to LS2 directly like used in 1JZ or 2JZ or RB25 or RB26 . Please refer to this kit for using LS2 Coil as COP , http://www.mojoperf.com

There may be a few of us here that sell coils and/or brackets. :)

SADFab being the other option of course. Both very adequate options depending on your preferences. I should have plug wires available for our version within the next few weeks.

Dead link, but I found what you were referring to in any case. The JZ plugs stick up a bit in the VC, so that setup is pretty easy to do and the boots already exist.

The plugs in the Miata head are recessed significantly in comparison. So the boot and terminal would be custom made, and would require R&D as well as substantial buy in($$$) for the mold, etc. The VC valley also doesn't lend itself to having the 585 coils stand up on end and to make a clean bracket.

link fixed.

yea the trick is to find the correct boot or find one that's very similar and modify it. If not the VAG R8 Coil seems pretty good alternative for now.

I recently have my wires made by Firecore50, Rick can make custom wires LS3/LS7 that will plug in your Mazda cylinder head, he already did mine.

Necro tread ressurection. I am considering using S2000 COPs in my VVT engine. Seems quite straightforward, but has anyone confirmed they physically fit?

lol, so it isnt so straight forward?

Any reason in particular that you want the s2000 coils? just wondering.

I'm going to guess it has something to do with this quote.

I read this with a /s at the end.

Reverant 03-08-2019 03:29 PM

Yes, they fit without any modification, because the stem part is quite tall. You will need to fabricate a plate to keep them bolted down.
