Reading Spark Plugs.

I'm confused, is this good or bad, based on the tune I have an opinion, but I like to know what someone who understands how to read plugs thinks. I pulled these at lunch today, and put in a new set.

By the way the plug at the bottom is the closet to the firewall, the one at the top is closest to the radiator.

Do you have a wideband?

Braineack 01-19-2009 04:33 PM

you don't like turning the motor off while boosting?

(they look fine to me)

curly 01-19-2009 04:42 PM

looks good, MIGHT be boardering on lean, but you'd need a wide band to know for sure

I'm using and LC-1 and I just replaced the O2 sensor. I pulled the plugs today because my car started running like crap again hoping to see that one of the COP's wasn't firing, but they all actually look pretty good to me as well. I trying to narrow down the issue, but so far all I've been able to prove is that if I reflash the ecu, and reload my msq everything is fine. If I send the MSQ and them run it everything is fine. But after I drive my car for no set period of time it starts running like crap again. As of late yesterday, I also determined that turning on EGO Correction and Authority, makes it worse. It feels like the car is lagging, then all of a sudden boost.

My car is non-turbo by the way, but thats the best analogy to the situation.

What have you changed from the basemaps that came on the ECU?

apariah 01-19-2009 06:03 PM

It reacts in a similar way if I run the base map. Its not exactly the same but its darn close. I'm running the 9093 Base Map without AFM. My major changes are to the Dwell for COP, turning on Knock input, and Launch Control, and going from an Narrowband to Wideband O2. My VE Table and AFR are different, and EGO Authority, and Priority are both set to 0. If I turn them on, the car bogs terribly all the time.

If I reload firmware, and msq, the car is fine, for a while, but within the hour it will start to behave strange again.

They look perfectly normal to me. #1 maybe looks gapped different than 2-4, but I may be seeing things. Might have just been bumped or dropped after removal. #4 looking like that is pretty normal I think. Most cars Ive driven have been that way. Last one in the bunch to get air from the intake manifold (in a 4 cylinder anyway).

Is Autotune on? Are you trying to run open loop? Post your MSQ.

Autotune is off, I'm not using it at all.

I was able to drive around a lunch today without any issues, using one of the MSQ's I build this weekend. The biggest difference between the file I'm running now and the some of the other files is the most recent files have been scaled for a NA car.

The file with the newest date is actually the older of the two. I just saved a copy of it today for adjustments.

Your fuel map is terrible. Have you just tried going back to the basemaps that were provided with the ECU? Try and get a datalog of the issue.

apariah 01-20-2009 05:43 PM

I sent a log of the issue to DIY, and its pretty strange, but the Map I'm using right now seems to be ok, and isn't do the same crazy stuff anymore.

I'll give it another try.
