Reinforced engine recipe I got - fixed
1 Attachment(s)
Hey,
I'm thinking of reinforcing my engine for higher boost and power, it is a 97 turbo miata with stock internals running up-to 15psi + 6spd trany + NB LSD. This is a list I got, is it all necessary ? any thing else is missing ? Thanks ! https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1465748046 |

You can't hotlink to an attachment on a different forum. The attachment won't work for those of us who aren't logged into said forum. It just looks like this: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1465739531 |
No Pistons?

You want 8.6:1 Supertech pistons with Weisco rings. Order them from TrackSpeed Engineering. The lower displacement pistons give you a bit more security on pump gas. Pick up rods off ebay with ARP2000 bolts. Stock headgasket is good for 84mm pistons, I use ones off ebay for $26 and they have worked great on several builds.
|
"ebay rods" as in the cheapest I can find ? cxracing like ? 83mm is right ?
Thanks ! |
Price seems a little high for rods/pistons/rings (I'm assuming rings are included in line 1) why not go 8.6:1 cr for boost? What brand pistons and rings are you using? Are you taking required machine shop work into account? What about a fresh seal /gasket set and timing belt kit? You could save by going ebay rods and also stock pistons, if your power goals aren't too high, especially if running e85. You need to define your goals more though.

My goals are 300-350whp.
I understand that forged rods can not be fitted with stock pistons due to rod bushing size difference. Currently I'm running stock internals, the offer is for CP 9:1 83mm pistons + manly rods. If the engine is fine and running strong can I skip the machining part ? I'm running pump gas 95/98 ron. |
Forged rods work fine with stock pistons.
You want 84mm Supertech Pistons. These pistons specifically in 84mm 8.6:1 compression. As for ebay rods as long as you get ones with ARP2000 studs you will be fine. |
Any reason not to use my current pistons ?
They run fine on pump gas up-to 15psi |
Your stock pistons? Well generally they are good to a little above 300whp. As long as you have a perfect tune you are fine, but any det and they will crack. Patsmx5 has cracked 2 sets around 350whp. I would buy forged pistons just so you never have to go into the motor again. I would also buy a BE oil pump.

ok then,
ebay rods+arp2000 84mm(bored)/83mm(stock) 8.6:1 (why not stock 9:1?) BE oil pump stock head gasket what about the rest in the list ? Thank you for your input :) |

Since you are in Israel I know shipping will be a pain. I would highly suggest emailing Savington at info@trackspeedengineering.com and talking to him about what you need. It might not be the absolute cheapest place to order from, but would probably be the easiest to make sure everything is correct and comes in one box. He can hook you up with everything you need for a bombproof bottom end, along with the injectors and such you need.
