I am in the middle of an engine removal, prepping my work by getting as much out before I get it on a lift.
Unfortunately, the engine does not run so I am unsure how I should release the fuel pressure. The normal way is to pull the fuse and let it die out from no fuel.
I can't do that in this case.

Any suggestions on how to vent the fuel pressure so that I can unhook fuel lines safely?

 

How long has it been since you last ran the fuel pump (ie, turned the key on)?

There's probably not much pressure left if it's been any length of time. And it's not like you're going to get gallons of fuel out. Take the clamp off the feed line somewhere, get the line broken free, wrap it in a couple of layers of rags if you're concerned, put out your cigar, and pop that hose off. You're probably going to get more fuel out just from it draining than you'll get "spraying".

 

It has been many many months since that engine ran. So it sounds like we are safe. I'll take the clamp off in open air and be sure to get rags on it quickly.

Open the gas cap then unhook the lines in the engine bay. Have some rags ready. Also expect to spill some when you pull the injectors. As long as you are not smoking a cig next to it all, you should be fine.
