Reman Crankshaft???

So, I did the loctite fix on my crankshaft at the beginning of summer. I've been reading up and researching on turboing my car for the past year. I've decided that before I up my power I need to replace my crankshaft. Do you guys have an opinion on Enginetech's Reman Cranks? They come with main and rob bearing and ship for a total of about 300 dollars. Any help with this would be great!

No experience, but you can get a good condition used crank for less, and IMO that would be better.

I ordered a Crank from ebay that was supposed to be "good condition, ready to drop in". I was expecting to have to polish it but turns out it needs turned too. The lowest price I found to turn and polish it was 150 bucks. So, 120 for the crank, 150 to turn and polish, then the bearings would put me over what a reman crank would cost...

any idea where I could find a ready to drop in, used crank? Tom at the parts group or whatever didn't have one and planet miata never got back to me.

You know who knew how to manufactur a crank shaft for this motor? Mazda.... well there's a couple out there that cost more then most used miata's too.
Let me put it this way... and this is coming from someone who has had a shit time with a reman motor.
A shop taking used parts and turning them and burning them for a profit has less vested in the product then you taking a shaft to a local engine shop and having them turn it for you. That extra money is going to be worth it most likely...even if just for the piece of mind.

You already have $120 in to the crank that needs to be turned right? So from where you stand now it's $150 plus bearings to get a usable OEM crank.

Or

Spend $300 and get a mystery crank w/ bearings.

Am I stupid for misunderstanding you or do you suck at making decisions?

Or

Were you planning to unload the bad crank for what you payed like an absolute tool?

the plan was, if you guys recommended the reman crank I'd buy it and return the one I bought from ebay. However, now I'm just going to have it turned and buy the proper bearings myself since the reman seem to have a bad rep.

thanks for all the input guys. Hopefully after this winter I'm able to join the turbo miata world.

Not to mention that the remanufactured kit would have turds for bearings. For a turbo motor, it's too cheap to not buy King or ACL Race bearings.

I recommend fixing the OEM crank and buying good bearings.

I bought a reman crank off eBay for my build. It had generic bearings and I (gasp) used them too. Over 10 years, plenty of 8k rpm runs later the motor is holding together after about 35k miles.

Any idea who did the Reman on the crank?

Also, my turbo build will only be shooting for 200 whp if that changes anything

ryansmoneypit 09-23-2017 12:13 PM

Ehh, these are nickel and dimes of the build.

so you wouldn't be scared to run a loctite repaired crankshaft even with it boosted?

If you did the fix correctly (660 in the keyway, oil resistant blue slathered on everything else) it will hold up just fine. We did a loctite fix on my friend's already boosted miata and put 7k hard miles onnit no problem before he crashed it and cracked the head. Plan is to combine that crank with the motor out of my car when I swap it, as a spare for his. Some joker welded the sprocket on my crank instead of doing loctite....

I guess I'll just run it:x:
