reroute crew, assemble!

Looking for any clever ways to mount the coil pack, aside from putting it straight on the firewall

Savington May 7, 2013 04:45 PM

Use a Kia neck or an M-Tuned reroute and don't move the coil pack at all?

Fireindc May 7, 2013 04:57 PM

COPS or LSX coils and mount them elsewhere?

Like Sav said . . . plenty of room for coils:

Hornet... BEGi spacer?

phillyb May 7, 2013 05:57 PM

i have a begi spacer on mine and the kia housing...
didn't need to move coil pack.
however, i am completely fucking dreading ever having to change the thermostat.
i should have picked up one of those in-line tstat housings.

Yes . . . BEGI spacer, KIA waterneck, GM truck hose, Trackspeed front neck block-off -- basically the MT.net standard reroute.

I had a fairly simple solution back when I was using stock coils with a thermo sensor sticking straight up.

More offsets!

The better solution is to switch to COPs.

BTW, the "stock" tabs are reinforced with welded plates below them, I kept cracking them with the lower bolt.

I should have been more specific. Vvt head on a 94 bottom end. Reroute + CAS means no room at the back of the head.

Trying to avoid COPS as its added expense with little benefit at this stage of the game

Use the OEM VVT coils.

Could you use the kia neck without any spacer and put the CTS and termostat somewhere else?

yes, you'd use an inline tstat housing

but then i'm curious about where the coolant temp sensor goes if not using a spacer like what begi provides.

i THINK rev covers this in one of his write ups
volume 1 - Easy Coolant Reroute – part 1 — revlimiter.net
volume 2 - Sorta-easy Coolant Reroute – part 2 — revlimiter.net

I'd probably tap the coolant neck and screw in the CTS after JBwelding the s*** out of it, then source out a BMW 2002 tstat and find something to put in the hose going back to the heatercore to restrict the flow...
