Default ACL Problems?

Long story short, had a motor built by a competent shop. They used half-shells to achieve the desired .002 clearance on the rods, not sure where mains were set. About 1500 miles later the engine failed, due to what we don't know. Tapping sounded like something in the head, but a few miles later rod bearing #1 was completely chewed apart. The others were fine. The mains were fine.

Now we are rebuilding the motor yet again (different shop), and finally after weeks of waiting I got my new ACL race bearings in hand. And of course after all the waiting, NOW I'm reading about problems with ACL bearings dating back to 2009 with their business troubles.

I'm wondering if I should return these and go with another bearing just to be safe, as I am not going to do a rebuild #3. Even if the clearances all work out, I'm worried the bearings themselves are not of the quality that they used to be. I've also read a few threads online from other forums showing problems with ACL.

I know nothing is perfect, and FM still swears by ACL brand bearings, but I am weary. What have you guys seen or heard or experienced?

Almost every question someone can ask has probably been answered before. So let's close the forum for new posts?

My question pertains to a specific concern, not where I can get them or what the alternatives are. Go be a smartass elsewhere

Good job with your reading comprehension. What you think he is asking is not what he is asking.

If stock bearings are often good for 300k miles, often in boosted applications, I don't see why they wouldn't be a viable option.

At least someone can read. Thanks for the feedback.

If I wanted a vendor's opinion, I already have FM's and wouldn't have asked. I'm asking about quality ISSUES of the bearings. Example being a guy on IWSTI having 2 of 3 batches of STD main bearings with inconsistent clearances, swapping in Clevites, and everything being in spec. Troll elsewhere.

If the ACL's failed you, I'd try something else for my own sanity. ACLs should be good though.

So return them? Why are you asking us if you've already made up your mind?

Here, my slightly modified search: https://www.google.com/search?q=site...rings+problems

No results of people having problems with ACL bearings. You asked what I heard or experienced, and I gave it to you. Sorry I guess?

I have not made up my mind, but am asking. Why do you insist on putting words into my mouth? Are you having a bad day? Go have a cigarette and calm yourself. You missed this one
