setting timing

how can i tell if my timing is set to 10? i have my ms fixed at 10. there are 2 dashes on the crank pulley but with the light i see 4 so i cant tell what the timing is.

find out what mark lines up with the TDC hash on the crank pulley when the #1 piston is truely at TDC.

IIRC, when youre at 10* you should be lined up to 20* and 10*.

I think you wanna go off the left mark. Left mark 10, right mark at zero. Adjust the trigger offset angle or whatever its called until its set...then switch timing back to use table

i see 2 marks, they look like this when the motor is not running

l l when its running i see 4 marks using the light l l l l

so i should use the far left mark and get it on the ten?

here's what I would do:

go out and pull #1 spark plug, drop your dipstick in the hole.

put a 21mm socket on rachet and pull the car out of gear. rotate the crank until the dipstick reaches TDC.

when you look at the crank pulley, you should see that the right most mark is aligned with the TDC hash, and the left most mark is aligned with the TEN hash.

I would then put a dab of Whiteout on the pulley mark that aligns with TDC.

when you set your timing to 10 degrees in MS. I'd then adjust the trigger angle so that the pulley mark with the Whiteout aligns with the TEN hash.

I did what Braineack described to double check, since I wasn't able to find any specific 99-00 info when I did mine. What I found was the left mark is what you go by- at TDC, left mark was lined up with "T".

You have 99 as well so it should all be the same. When it's set right- left mark will align with 10 and right mark will align with "T" or TDC. apparently it's the same as 94, 96-97 model cars.

I took a pic at one point....ill try to find it later
