Small crack in my turbo manifold...

I have a small crack in my turbo manifold near the turbo flange. Can I weld it with everything still bolted up or do I have to take the turbo off the manifold first?

I sold my daily so my turbo miata will be my daily for a week till I get a new daily. I can live with the small crack for a week if I have to take the turbo off.

I have a lincoln 140hd mig, or should I take it to a shop who has a tig?

opinions?

If it's undrivable, you could probably weld it on the car, but you'll have to do a lot of protection of all the bits around it first. Just like painting, the smaller the part you're trying to paint (weld), the more you're going to have to mask.

If it's still drivable, I'd wait until the new DD arrives and take it off to be properly welded.

I wouldn't weld it with any small welder that plugs into a 110 outlet.
What kind of manifold is it?
When I drilled my FM manifold for my external wastegate addition, I noticed 1 thing. It is soft, real soft. Welding on it would be nothing like welding regular mild steel.

if it drives, run the car slightly hard till its hot, shut off motor then weld it right away (after you set up everything etc), then immediately start the car and let it idle for 10min. This will make the manifold cool slowly then shut off motor and let it cool completely. I did this to a 323 gtx manifold with a 100a arc welder and it never cracked on me after like 1000km of driving. OR get it tig welded

I think he might have figured it out in the last 4 months...
