Yeah, the thing looks pretty cherry. So there is one problem. On the exhaust side one of the valves is sticking. As in it takes the force of god to open it with a wrench. It doesn't seem bent, as it still seals when you close it with the palm of your hand. It sticks when you move the cam to the closed position. I have been soaking it in Marvel mystery oil for a while, and that seemed to help it make some progress. The head apparently sat for about 2 years before I bought it, But, I walked out the door with that and the valve cover for 250 after it was all said and done. So, Do I need do dissassmble the sombich? Or do you think the oil or something else will work. Would it be better if I bought couple gallons of cheap oil and soaked in a bucket? Or should I just say screw it and take it apart and do new valves and guides on the problem ones.

Next question, Where am I supposed to hook the oil supply to the VVT? Oil sensor where I feed my turbo from? I have a 97 block. Also, I do not have a VVT oil pump, but do have a boundary engineering oil pump shimmed to 67 psi.

Last but not least, there looks like there is a little hole above the back of the intake cam in the valve cover, the sensor there is missing. Does that have something to do with the VVt or is it just something that I can block off.

Thaaaaaannnks.:makeout:

First off, I hope you made very precise notes about which direction your cam caps were originally installed.

The hole is for the cam sensor. You will need it to use the VVT with the megasquirt. Used is a good idea. New is about $70.

I would disassemble and at the very least replace the valve seals. They're cheap.

And if you're gonna do that, it's a small step up to get a 3 angle valve job and lap.

Shuiend will have info on the oil supply I suspect.

IIRC my test fit on a 97 block, the oil feed lined up with the opg sensor / turbo feed line outlet.

Do what I'm doing, pnp and general cleanup pre-installation.

FYI Toyota cops don't fit the valve cover but they fit the plug holes so you can enlarge the valve cover holes to use them or get 01+ protege or 01+ miata cops (they are the same).

Yes, I did, I know if I screwed it up, they would have to be align honed. I was going to punch them, but mazda so nicely wrote e1, e2, e3, e4, and e5, on them, In order. I can get the sensor for free, It will just take a while.

So, I don't mind doing valve seals, but then, stepping up a little has but me over budget, and taking longer than I intended. My wife just took a huge pay cut, so things just got a little tight, and she cant take a job til I get my POS back on the road. I still need an IM for the damn head too. The head off my blow motor had the piston hit the head, or I would just do that. The 97 engine I picked up I am pretty sure that it was warped because some of the headbolts upon removal felt very loose, and some took the force of god to remove. So, I will disassemble the head myself probably, If the Marvel Mystery Oil doesn't work. I assume NA heads valves wont interchange if need be. Which is a shame, because I have 2 of the sons of bitches laying around.

Take out the buckets, springs and valve seals. Then put some atf in there. Let it sit for a day or so. See how that works. Also while you have it all apart bag it up and have the head looked at. Have them do a valve job and machine the surface of the head.

How much are IMs going for now a days?

Have a great day,
Jared

I have a lower IM and the factory cops with wires if you want to buy them.

I am trying to get one for 75, but the guy never pm'ed me back. I am not sure what I would do with just the lower half, fae. Looks like I am disassembling this thing. I am too lazy to do such, after a while, you just get tired of working on damn cars. But I don't have the money to pay someone else.

YEAyuh BoIZzzz. I seem to have gotten one of the stuck valves working like new, and the other one moving. Marvel mystery oil is magic. I still have to go buy a new valve spring compressor. My old one is in TN. Is there a certain kind I can get that doesn't require me to get some extension pipe and cut a hole in the side to get the keepers out?
