Spark blowout

This term bothers me. Considering the valves are all closed when the plug fires, how can the spark be getting blownout?

If anything, the plug misfires due to the rich afr's under boost.

Oooh good poiint. Spark wetout?

MartinezA92 Feb 4, 2011 08:07 PM

I always assumed spark "blowout" just meant lack of spark. AKA a misfire.
I'm not even sure "wet out" would be the correct term.

It seems the term gets tossed around on FI messageboards, like the boost is blowing out the spark or something. IDK, just struck me as odd.

Who wants to buy my mighty 01+ coils? Good to 20psi. I have four. Run sequential or waste with just two. Pursuant to no moist plug tips

Henceforth, it will be known as "spark not work so good because there's not enough energy to jump across the gap to the grounding strap".

Man law.

Or weak spark?

Spark fail

flounder Feb 5, 2011 11:45 AM

Yes! All better than spark blowout. :bigtu:

I searched the term on an neon srt forum and one guy says "yeah all that pressurized air coming into the combustion chamber blows the spark out before it can ignite the mix."

:facepalm:Those dodge 4 bangers must use some pretty neato valve timing tricks to pull off that one.

-burn time is usually 2-3 msec
