Spec miata exhaust for later turbo upgrade
Saw this online....Spec miata exhaust | eBay
Looks good to me simple, light weight, fairly cheap. Any thoughts? I don't see why it wouldn't make a good Na choice. And being it bolts to the factory dp I could use it in the future with a turbo dp |
You'd want at least 2.5" diameter if you're upgrading over stock...especially if you plan on going turbo.
|
Not big enough. 3" is the only exhaust worth buying on a turbo car.

That exhaust is a joke, any N/A mod is a joke on the miata. |

my miata is going to be NA for a lil while as i don't have the funds for a turbo build yet. I'm slowly sourcing all the parts. I was going to turbo my 1.6 but I'm swapping in a 1.8 insted. The exhaust i had on the car was held together with jb weld and aluminum cans so i need something to go on the new motor. I have the factory 1.8 downpipe but nothing after that.
I want something that wont need upgraded later when i add a turbo. plan to have a low boost build around 200whp...what exhaust options are out there under $500? |
Enthuza.
FWIW: To flow enough to not be a restriction with a turbo, it's going to be LOUD AS FUCK on an NA car. |
Honestly, just buy a stock one for next to nothing and save for a quality one for the future turbo setup.
Purchase MS instead and enjoy the marginal power increase (probs more than a 'nice' N/A exhaust might give you) with your butt dyno all while working towards your turbo system. I was exactly where you are several years back. I thought there was a nice middle ground exhaust that could function well for both setups. Then I researched, resisted upgrading N/A stuff, did the above, and now my chi is in balance with a nice artech 3" on the way. I want you to experience this. OR do whatever you want and be pissed off later. Choose the chi. |
The Mazdaspeed SM exhaust is fucking loud and not that great. The OBX cat back on ebay isn't half bad, it's 2.5" with pretty good bends. Muffler sounds good too. It's got a 4" tip but cut it off and weld on a smaller one. I've had that exhaust on my DD for at least 100k miles through snow and ice and it's still holding strong.

ok so ive come to terms with the face that whatever i purchase will need replacing when i go turbo. as i want somthing thats actually drivable and not crazy noisy.
hoping to find a good condition stock unit if not i may go with the obx system. That 4 inch pis is retarded tho |
dont buy an n/a exhaust system at all. what's the point?
its a complete waste of money. Buy xidas. |
well the point of buying a na exhaust for me is because driving around with nothing but a open header is verry loud...not only undbaribly annoying but also will get me pulled over allot... as of right now i have no exhaust. my freshend up 1,8 will be going into my car next weekend allong with a megasquirt. car is alreay sitting on fulll coilover system and sway bars and stainless steel frame rails and a brand new lightweight flywheel and clutch...so this isnt me trying to get more performance and wondering where to spend my money..its about a good cheap exhaust option to get by so i can drive my car again... yes i would like to go turbo but im going to tune my ms na first then go turbo when i have another large chunk of cash to blow on car parts.

buy the ebay tsundo exhaust and sell it on CR once you're done.
