Start MSM motor on 1.6 ECU?
Cool, got my MSM motor and I'm ready to start getting the maintenance parts replaced before it gets set down in the NA chassis.
I'd like to prove that the motor is good (comp test, idle, warmup while parked) before I start stockpiling too many more project parts. I do not have an ECU yet, other than the one that's installed in the chassis now. Open to suggestions on how to do so, or scrapping the idea entirely. Anyone think its possible, and safe, to follow the 1.6 to 1.8 instructions, thus really considering the MSM 1.8 as a NA 1.8 in the interest of just doing the aforementioned testing? Thanks. |
It should be OK for starting/idle as the injectors are the same as the VVT engine. If you have instructions for that I can't see why it wouldn't work.

Why would I need VVT injectors? MSM isn't equipped with VVT, right?
I've got the long block with the stock turbo, fmic/plumbing, injectors... |
That's the injectors an MSM engine comes with, so if the instructions say you can run a VVT engine on an NA ECU then you can start and idle an MSM engine on an NA ECU. Sorry I wasn't too clear.

Thanks for clarifying, I understand what you meant now.
I've read this guy, over and over: http://www.flyinmiata.com/support/in...sc/1.8swap.pdf I think I should be OK, but definitely curious to hear from others out there as well. :hustler: |
