Starting a build

I have a 97 NA that I eventually plan to turbo or keep it NA if I happen to like this build as it is, I picked up a 99 NB motor complete accept manifolds for a couple hundred and upon tare down found no problems, now I want to build a track reliable engine that can be street driven as well so I have to maintain the OBDII system for emissions in my state, so I'm leaning towards 84mm 9:1 supertech pistons with Manley rods along with a super damper and a upgraded oil pump and since I have it swap the bp4w head and get a NB intake , I haven't decided on what clutch and flywheel to run and I already have cooling upgrades in place, is there anything else I should be looking into while I have it apart or any parts recommendations.
Thanks

8.6:1 pistons. Are always the correct choice unless you only use e85.

I'm not going to be running a whole lot of boost I was told by the guys at Flyin Miata that I'm limited by my injectors since I have to maintain the OBD2 system figured I could offset that by running it at stock compression with increased displacement

Your very first mod should be English spelling/grammar/punctuation lessons.

Carry on :giggle:

Pulled the motor apart found cyl 1 and 3 had broken piston rings and destroyed cylinder walls.

And three guy I bought the 99 engine from left it out over winter with no spark plugs in it and I don't see any reason to put stock components back into it if I'm going to track it.

If you are staying OBD2 compatible then building a motor is really not worth the money. I also would not base my decisions on only what FM says.

yep, if staying compliant is a must do, than anything but milling the head and running the 99 seems like a waste.

figure out what you ARE going to do. saying you might stay NA or might go turbo is like saying" I'm going to live in Africa or Antarctica, I haven't decided."

DBXJ 04-20-2017 09:25 AM

The only thing they look for is the OBDII plug in and monitoring system they don't even pop the hood, I have my 2g in the state I know what the compliance laws are here and FM VOODOO system shouldn't cause a problem since there's a 99 and a 03 running them in my area.
Now if there was a legal way to do it then I would run a stand alone in a heartbeat but as it stands I have another year before I can go classic plates on the car and be smog exempt as for now I'm building the motor for when that time comes.

Had the pleasure of tuning this car this weekend. It's a beast. Made way more power than most other 2560 setups. I'm thinking the 9:1 comp helped
