Default Bold new world! kind of, okay not really - Engine build

Was considering a LS3 swap in my 05 MSM (w/budget in place) but am now reconsideing a stroker build w/turbo.

(Please - this thread is not a V8 vs I4t debate)

I'm looking for solid direction from people who have build said engines w/turbos. Car is a weekend warrior, mild track day car, like to see 275-300rwhp and a ton of mid range torque if I can get it. Already talked to Trackspeed and FM but wanted to open the question out to the masses.

Open to suggestion, parts, companies, etc... I have a second/spare MSM engine for the build. When suggesting parts please explain why.

Regards, O

A stroker? Do you **** money? There are lot of better things to spend money on - like triple adjustable XIDAs

There is nothing specific you need to do for that power level. Basically, any forged bottom end will do.
- Any low compression pistons (+1mm)
- Any forged rods
- ARP main and head studs
- Billet oil pump
- Your choice of bearings

Voila you have the same bottom end that virtually everyone has here!!
If you want to be baller, you can throw in a $150 MBSP like this - https://www.miataturbo.net/miata-par...-pickup-68385/

Have the Xida's w/suspenion bits, wilwood brakes and roll bars, etc...
As for **** money I think its cheaper in the long run to increase the power of a car thats already paid for and track proven than to trade/sell it for, lets say a FRS (yeah), lotus or an older 993. 15g's doesn't get you much... but it sure can make a difference to an already great car like the miata - but you know that.

Money aside, how would you proceed?

Regards, O

by "stroker" I was referring to the BP stroker - you know, the $5k flyin' miata waste of money one!

build a simple forged bottom end (1.9L, no stroker needed)
build a 99-00 or VVT head
pick a turbo
get a fabricator to build you hotside/exhaust parts and i/c piping
get a turbo crane
get v-bands everywhere you can and inconel studs if you can't
use your 6 speed
get a lower ratio diff (3.6 gears + OS Giken for god-mode)
upgrade fuel system (ID1000 injectors, -6AN lines from tank, DW300 pump)
get trackspeed radiator and coolant reroute

???

profit

I also don't think the FM $troker is worth it. If you're spending that much money just go LSX. As for a nice turbo build ( which you should do ) any semi built 1.8 bottom end will do.

Realistically you could drop in some rods and run 280-300whp. However a fully built motor is always better. +1 on the 1.9

...as per Trackspeed (personal email - today)

"If you have a budget at all, forget about the stroker. They provide a small torque bump (~15-20ft.lbs) for a massive, massive cost.

Our turbo kit will be capable of ~325whp while still maintaining unparalleled low-end torque (on a VVT motor, you should expect ~220ft.lbs at 3000rpm). You'll need to build a motor and a fuel system, but our kit's turbo, intercooler, fuel injectors, and ECU will meet your goals with no alterations required."

Yeah, Savington and the gang know what's up as far as track miatas go. Listen to them. Get their turbo kit if you can as well, looks like its going to be epic.

Soviet is right.
Trackspeed should have a spiffy new turbo kit released soon too.
Build motor per soviets suggestions, and install the new tse kit.

post results

should be everything you're looking for

Stroker is very 2009. Just sleeve overbore to 2.4L for max torques

Seriously has anyone seen a 2554 or 2560 on e85 dyno?

I'd bet a 2560 would hold power pretty well on a miata with e85. I'd like to see it. I've seen a few 300whp pump gas dyno's on that turbo.
