So I'm in the process of reassembling my engine bay and fixing some of my own not so great wiring.

The problem I am running into is that many of the stock connectors, such as the connector on the CAS and the coolant temp sensor, on my wiring harness have become brittle and cracked/broken/lost the locking tab.

Is there any place where I can order new connectors?

Also is there a special tool required to remove the pins from the connectors?

I think you are going to be stuck with used, junkyard OEM connectors for some of this stuff...

BUT! You might try some of the used parts vendors... start with forum sponsors like Flyin' Miata Salvage. I've had better results actually calling FM about salvage stuff rather than using the form on the site, but YMMV. If FM can't help you (doubtful) try PartsGroup, BTDT Racing, PlanetMiata, Panic Motorsports, eBay...

The only place I can think of off the tip of my brain that *might* have new connectors is Ballenger Motorsports. They are not a Miata specific vendor but they do seem to stock a lot of different Japanese OEM type connectors.

Good luck, let us know what you find. I've seen other people looking for OEM connectors as well, it would be nice to have sources for this stuff.

It -=> MIGHT <=- also be possible to purchase them directly from a Mazda dealer parts counter. I've never tried, and the parts catalogs which I have list only the complete harnesses and not the individual connectors, however I have purchased discrete connectors in the past from my local Ford dealership (for use with Escort-style VR sensors), so it's at least worth a shot.

That being said, EO2K is more likely on the mark. Aside from the ECU connector itself, I've never had any luck tracking down the actual OEM for any of the connectors under the hood of a Miata, much less purchasing them. This ain't GM country.

On the plus side, car manufacturers do tend to re-use the same connectors over and over again for decades across many different product lines. So it's quite possible that if you root around through the local U-pull-it junkyard, you might be able to find connectors equivalent to what you need (albeit with the wrong color wires hanging from them) under the hood of a much newer Ford / Mazda vehicle, which would at least allow you to replace a 22 year old connector with a 5-10 year old one.

Oh, fuel injector connectors are actually pretty easy to come by. Most places which sell aftermarket injectors also have a stock of the various connectors which they require in order to make adapter pigtails from.

You might also try Eastern Beaver(jp) I **think** a lot of the connectors are Sumitomo's. Good luck.

I was just about to post eastern beaver, cool old guy runs it, just bought a miata like a month or two ago too. Its where I bought my stuff. Most of our connectors are sumimoto DL series. I wish I bought his crimper rather than the B-motorsports one. And do buy the de-pinning tool, yeah it looks like you dont get much for 30 bucks but it works way better than eyeglass repair screwdrivers.

I have a 99 engine harness hanging in my garage. I wished that I had remembered to bring it home to make a table of connectors (sans injector and rear water sensor).

But I can't seem to find the VVT keyed connector anywhere :(

I betcha 4P090WP-DL-M-SPA-S is the part number for a 4 pin male connector, as seen on that 99/00 coil. THAT would make for amazing plug & play harness connections (COPs.) Too bad neither New United nor the Beaver dude list them. Google also says narp.

And I bet that 4P090WP-DL-M-SPA-S is not made Just like the CAS connector which is 4P090WP-DL-M, and not made. Wait. Those are the same part numbers. So. The CAS and the coil packs use the same connector. Cool.

I also have 4 of the female versions of those connectors that I ordered thinking they were the same as the toyota cop harness. I'll also confirm that the 94-95 coils use the same connector, because I just pulled the two together.

Pretty sure that's right, there in a class of connectors which are 'wire-to-device' - the male end is something that gets molded in. The other class is 'wire-to-wire', which has an opposite end that takes, well, wire.

For PnP on 99-00 for COPS, I would replace the two 4-pin female DLs with a 6-pin DL wire-to-wire on the sub harness ( only six of the eight pins are used ). Then you could plug your COPS harness into that, and make bridge harness of 6-pin to the two OEM DLs for the stock coils. A lot of splicing, but I don't see another way of doing it except getting an old coil pack and getting out the dremel and a lot of electrical tape.

I dont know how the later cars are setup, but the 94-95 have a 6 pin sumitomo connector that is a sub harness for just the coil packs, thats how I made my cop harness PNP. The part number and wiring diagram for that is in the cop thread.

And I forgot the name but wire-to-device is what it is, looked back to the email with eastern beaver and thats exactly what Jim said it was.

Ehh, I tried to salvage connectors from a coil, and also tried a 6 pin weatherpack. Eventually I just bought a second engine harness and hardwired it all in, so no connectors to fail.

has anyone confirmed the VVT solenoid connector number? If we can figure some of this out, I'll put all the part numbers on the table I'm making for common Miata part numbers by year.
