SuperMiata Whammy crate engines

We are very proud to announce our complete built long block program for our customers to complement the CNC head we launched last year. After many years testing, experimenting (and winning a few races along the way) we have settled on a selection of options to fit virtually every BP project. We have tested pretty much every single one of the many options listed. Send us an email if you have any questions about your project.

Complete blueprinted long blocks with balanced cranks, billet pump gears, forged rods and pistons start at $4599

Check out our configurator to research options: http://949racing.com/SPM-Whammy-Race-Engine.aspx

Wow, no questions. I guess everyone hangs out in Race Prep now.

patsmx5 02-19-2015 10:39 PM

I got a question. What's with the rod options, Cheap rods or Carrillo's that say NA only? Why NA only? Why not offer the Carrillo H-Beams with the CARR bolts in your engines?

curly 02-19-2015 11:02 PM

I can put it in race prep if you'd like?

My only question is: wasn't this previously available for the last year or 2? Or is it a big change that it's now much more customizable online. I could play with your configuration tool all day...

Sorry, was busy collecting all the change in my couch, under my bed, etc.

I think, for the most part, you've talked about most of the aspects of these motors in various threads on various forums. I hate to say that I stalk you for knowledge's sake, but I'd be lying if I said otherwise. I expect anyone looking to order one of these has probably done the same.

I wish I had a reason to spend this kind of money on a motor, but I enjoy driving more than racing and it makes no sense for a DE motor.

We offered one "all of it" engine but not the many options we have now.

Basic HPDE engine is only about $1500 more than a Mazda crate engine. Ours has double valve springs, billet oil pump gears, forged pistons, forged rods, ACL race bearings, balanced crank. Nothing exotic or overly expensive.

Because the Manleys do the job for one third the price. If someone is building a 500hp engine, we can option the Carrillo H Beam's with CARR bolts (We're using those in our 8800rpm K20A2 build). We just left if off the configurator to declutter. There are several high dollar upgrades we left off because realistically, the person that wants a $13,000 BP isn't using a configurator. That's 20 emails and 2hrs on the phone.

We have had a lot of comments about folks not being able to afford a $10,000 motor. That's why we offer a basic blueprinted engine with all forged internals for only $4599. For reference, a new 01-05 long block from Mazda is $4135 retail.

Dustin1824 02-25-2015 04:40 PM

I didn't question/comment on this when I saw it on your site, but I do appreciate the new configurator.

This is much more affordable to the average person. Not everyone can afford an ALLOFIT Whammy motor. Not everyone needs that, either.

After all is said and done, building this motor yourself will cost just about this much after all of the machining costs unless you own your own shop. Not to mention how much time it will take you to assemble everything.

In my case, I don't personally know of any shops local to me that are known to properly machine and install everything on a Miata motor. I don't want to end up like Hornetball and removing a head multiple times in a year because of a machining/assembly error. I don't like to gamble when it comes to this stuff.

If you plan on building a Miata motor with more than 60% of the stuff this motor comes standard with, I think it would be difficult to NOT consider going with 949.

Just another thing for me to dream about...

Shortblocks available as well?

Not just yet. We're putting together those options.

robertcope 02-25-2015 09:41 PM

The problem is that it is impossible to not add options. Impossible.

So true.

Haha, I'm waiting for the 949racing Miata configurator tool. You pick NA/NB, the engine configuration you want, the suspension bits (see big grip kit), the brake package, and the 6UL + tire package.

You just send them a stock Miata to avoid a core charge. LOL.

joyrider 02-26-2015 01:57 AM

6 months too late... I probably would have a running built engine right now instead of a permanent headache...

I would buy that, so much simpler and 4 weeks is amazing too.

What are your crating/shipping charges like to NJ? The head of NASA NE TT recently finished an exocet and will be racing it in ST3. He posted on facebook a couple days ago for engine builder recommendations in the area because he wants to avoid driving far or paying high crating and shipping fees. I'm going to recommend give you a call, but it'd be nice to have a rough estimate on what it might cost him for getting the motor to him and returning his core.

$200-250 to east cost, $100-200 west coast

Great, thanks.

curly 02-26-2015 01:17 PM

Hot damn, now there's an awesome price. Just paid $200 for FM's little enchilada package and clutch. Easily a few hundred pounds lighter, although from the middle of the country to west coast, not west to west.

joyrider 03-01-2015 11:33 AM

Emilio should add the song of 50 cents when opening the configurator... *Welcome to the candy shop*... and for everything you see, there's Mastercard :P

:hahano:

Third time (and different machinist) is a charm?
