Supertech valve springs
Anyone who has looked at valve springs will have noticed the numbers between standard, FM, supertech etc etc but using the known values we can have a guess at where the potential for the unknown springs will fit.
Supertech has 5 spring sets in all two match FM specs so give us a set point of 9k redline and knowing that weaker forces means lower redline we can assume the lower valvespring is an OEM replacement. So this leaves us with two springs with very agressive rates 70lbs @ 33.50mm and 74lbs @ 34.20mm. Taking two approachs (log and linear) we can find the maximum redline for these springs seems to be over 11,000rpm. Can anyone with these or perhaps information shared by Supertech give tested maximum as these seem perfect for my build. |

You will be very hard pressed to see >9k rpm. You'll have a hard time finding rods that will take you above 8,500. Your money may be better spent on custom cams at 8k+, the stockers were never tuned to see those RPMs.
You will never see 10k rpm out of a miata engine. |
I am not asking about rods, cams or anything else. My friends miata has 214bhp on IRTBs and 9k redline so its not exactly hard for me to get the parts for raising the redline but he has gone solid lifter via custom engineering and I am trying to find the valvetrain parts for such an upgrade the rest I can already get.
Can someone with the structural engineering knowledge or experience of these valves tell me what there upper safe limit is? |

If you can tell me the exact thickness of the valve stem (smallest diameter), the exact weight, and how far it opens I can tell you.
I guessed on a few of these variables and got: 443,209rps....maybe something's wrong with my math. |
Guess I'll just use the same as Karl then as its still a little low with Joe's maths
Here is Karl's car http://www.xsspeed.co.uk/images/enginebay.jpg |
YUP.....that's definitely a car! I can tell because there is a motor in there!

He is going to have a bitch of a time stopping that car. The master is on the wrong side.

i bet that its a drift car!

Why do you want to rev so high? That is bad for the engine. I never rev over 3000 unless it's Sunday and then I go all the way up to 3500. My mechanic also tells me that if you double clutch, your valves will last longer.

Damn..look at that massive fitting holding the breather filter in place...
