TDC No.1?
OK, I need to identify TDC No.1 (compression stroke). Tell me if I have this right:
Timing marks on crank aligned. No.1 cylinders cam lobs horizontal and pointing out (large radius inwards). Correct? |
Just for information this was correct.
|
yes, that's correct.
When I deal with this crap, I point both cams to the outside of the car, and put the woodruff key straight up. Then I bolt everything together and cut a tiny-groove in the valve cover with a hack-saw, fill it in with white paint, then mark the crank pulley and accessory pully so I can check timing without disassembling anything. http://www.jhodson.net/miata99/images/lockup-w.jpg |
The keyway in the crank is straight up at #1 TDC as mentioned.
The most foolproof way I have found to find TDC on any car is to pull #1 spark plug, drop a long 1/4" socket extension down the hole, and use a dial indicator. e.g.: http://www.boost-instruments.com/wp-...009_edited.jpg |
