Things to do when swapping heads
 

Anyone here running an FM built head? I may be picking one up for a great price. Just wanted to hear some input from experience with the head. RPM's it's good for etc.

I spoke with Jeremy at FM and he said they use Supertech SS valves and springs. The Head is still hydraulic.


Anyhow. Aside from head studs, head gasket, valve cover gasket and intake/exh gaskets what else should I do while I'm in there?

Also, what is the best way to see how healthy my bottom end still is? I've been burning a bit of oil lately but don't know if it's rings or the head.

I am goingto be building a second bottom end over the summer/winter for next season but want to get the head on now and tune for better power for this season.

burning oil? how is your crankcase ventilated? Still stock PCV Configuration? Ever remove your oil/pcv baffles in the valve cover and forget to put sealant on them when you replaced them? Bottom end stock? How many miles?

The car has 176k kms. Not sure how old the engine is though, since it's a long nose and I have a 1990. so the engine has been swapped sometime in it's history. Compression is 205ish across the board.

PCV is vented as is the other breather. No catch can right now, just filters. The can is on the way in the mail. Bottom end is stock. I've never pulled the valve cover so I don't know regarding the baffles.
