Things to look out for when buying second hand pistons

So I am thinking about buying wiseco pistons, second hand

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rd...712868738.html

locally but I don't exactly know what to look out for. Any tips and info?

can rings be reused as well?

i would stick em in the motor and confirm the end gap but i see no reason why they couldnt so long as your shit is still standard bore and his shit is still standard bore.

that piston is wiseco:K554M785
so .5mm overbore

bore (mm) 78.500mm
Piston Style Dish, with four valve reliefs
Piston Material Forged aluminum
Compression Distance (in) 1.258 in.
Piston Head Volume (cc) +13.00cc

+1, plenty of ways to be cheap, used pistons isn't one I would recommend.

at minimum you will need to get your shit bored then.

If they have holes in them then I would walk away. Also, if the rings come out in little partial pieces, that's not good either.

Or just get new pistons since the machine costs and the time involved in installing any set of forged pistons are the bigger expense than the pistons themselfs anyway.

If you do get them, I would have your machinist look them over carefully when doing the work on the block.

if u wanting to buy pistons i would recommed buying them new instead of buy used ones.

Personally, for $100 I would buy them and take them to a machine shop to get looked over. Its worth the risk to me to potentially save $350-400. They can test them for cracks etc... If they turn out bad then you have a loss, but the chances of all of them being bad is slim. Then you can just order a couple replacement slugs direct from wiseco. Personally don't see the downside other than the potential $100 loss. If you can afford to risk that I say take it.

Hardness test them, if it's still around 70 HRb you should be fine give that there aren't any major wear issues...

Obviously that picture the seller has up isn't recent...

I'd have to agree with some of the others and side with the way spend an assload of money to build a motor and have question marks on your pistons.
