No.
I removed the old leaking vc gasket, wiped down the area with acetone, threw on the new gasket and put 6 little beads of silicone in their appropriate places as per instructions.

I'll change oil, make sure its at level, and see where that puts me. If it still does it, its feeler gauge time

Does this happen all the time or just at idle?

Very good question.

I believe it is only at idle. Didn't listen for it while driving or revving, so not 100% positive.
I will double check today when I get home.

What is the difference if I may ask?

No idea, but mine has been doing the same thing, but only at idle. Mine is vvt/oil related though, not sure which one yet.

I find that mine likes to tick more likely after I drive it hard, turn it off, and turn it back on within about a half hour. It never does it on the first start-up of the day. Ever.

You want the T6 Synthetic 5w40. It's the only blue bottle of Rotella. I run it in my Miata and my Mazdaspeed6. I believe that is what hustler runs as well.

well unless you messed something up big time. i am saying its the old oil.
5w30 royal purple FTW purrs like a kitten after change
do not go with 15w40, i would say 30 weight is just fine

the weights go like this. if you are using 5w30 then it is thinner at start up and when it gets hot it thickens to the 30 weight
well in the states you can get royal purple for 4 bucks at the dealer but here in hawaii its 7 bucks from royal purple them selfs. have to buy by the 12q case

castrol edge 10w30 is what I use and is also like 8 bucks a pop...I really don't think it has to do with oil though. Happens to so many people who use different oils

well you can get that stuff in stores cuz the price is crazy. i was saying if you want it contact the dealer. but i was saying that it is prolly just old oil doing it. any fresh oil should make it go away

Blue bottle 5w40. You people talking about only 8 bucks a quart? Try 5. It is 19.99 at the wally world. It runs way more quiet than the mobil 1.

Happened to a friend of mine recently, an oil change took away the tick completely. Something about the oil being stuck at the lifter.

Ummm....lifter tick on any 99+ head is not due to anything related with how old or what type of oil you're using... old...low...doesn't matter. It's one of three things-

1) No oil
2) No oil pressure
3) Bad adjustment

How loud is the tick? Can you narrow it down to one area of the head? Intake or exhaust? I'd almost be inclined to suggest that it's those giant injectors that are clacking away at idle. I know I can hear my RC550's quite clearly at idle. BUT without being over your engine while it's running, I cannot say one thing or another.

I thought you were going to refrain from using your keyboard when browsing this forum? You're back to posting useless bullshit again. Everyone knows that 90-97 HLA heads are super prone to ticking and that it's no problem.

My HLA's let me know when it's time to change the oil. Right around 2500-3500 miles they will start ticking, aside from the typical start up tick that goes away within seconds. Mine just started tonight on the way home from work. Started it up and it sounded pretty rough.

Bump on an old thread.

My ticking is pretty loud and sounds like it's coming from the intake side of the head. Going to get some oil and change it, but besides that what else is there to do? I'm not too familiar with the workings of a head...

I just had my oil changed today, fixed the tick immediately. I use mobil 1 full synthetic and also a bottle of rizlone additive, the rizlone stuff works very well

I used some other valve stuff, didn't help but I haven't changed oil yet either... going to try rotella this time.
