Toyota COP 1.6 question
Hey guys, I bought a used set of Toyota cops. I went to install it on my 1.6 and no fire. When I was looking over the sticky on it, it shows that the 95's don't need the tach wired up. But on the diagram it shows that the 1.6 does need it. Lo and behold, the tach wire was snipped off the connectors. So I wanted to confirm that, that is what I need. I'm currently running a MS2PNP.

Just search it. The 1.6 and '95 1.8 are different setups. I had a hard time navigating the different info that I found, but if you just follow the schematics and make sure what you bought is what you have you should be good. This was my problem. I bought something that was not prepped well and basically threw out the harness and made a new one based off the info here. Go back a few steps and make sure everything is wired up properly.

If you aren't using the tach wire on the cops you need to use the one from the megasquirt.

So I got the COP's working. Still no tach output though. So should I just go from the options plug into the harness??

I think you want to look up putting a jumper/resister in the diag box for the 1.6. Post #11

Just an update.
I followed the guide and found out the wires for power and ground were mixed up. So as far as the tach output wire, if you open up the MS, there's a jumper there for the TACH output (Pin 4 on the options plug). I ran a wire from the TACH Out to the ignitor, and spliced it to the Yellow/Blue wire coming from the ignitor. Turned on tach out in Tunerstudio, and everything is good! Changed the dwell time, etc and runs so much better than it did on the stock coils, and yes, I am still wasted spark at the moment. |
